Re: ODI cricket world cup
Circumstances that prevailed weren't england's fault so in my book they are fair winners.
Don't see any problem with dissecting decisions, tournament rules either as without further consideration, maybe nothing will change should similar situations arise in future.
In tight games such as this, it's natural to discuss "could have, should have, if only........."

Still? Please explain.Michael wrote:End of the day, you didn't deserve the trophy as you should not of been awarded it.God is an Englishman wrote:We'll never know if I would have reacted differently but the fact is we won the tournament.
The same question could be asked as to how you'd all be reacting if England hadn't won it.
One simple fact, we are the world cup champions.
You were not the BEST team in final, let alone the tournament.
Enjoy the success, if it wasn't for the farcical umpiring decision at the end, you would still be trophyless.
Or don't you count T20, as you have never won it?

Stokes wasn't pissed off !Bomber wrote:I know many kiwis who are mighty pissed off!six and out wrote:England won it through the rules and regulations, an asterisk is often aganst a team that wins a football comp on penaties - no different.
The 5 or 6 runs is ambiguous and it seems a wrong call was made, but if England needed more off the last ball Stokes would have played it differently ,and what could be deemed an official's mistake is life, happens in all sports all the time.
The fact is simsple, England won, and only Australians are moaning about it (and that's because the winners are England) get over it and move on.

Personally, I'm not fussed who won the trophy...do they actually get the trophy to take home or a replica.Stitch This wrote:Keep trying Nick, but as 'six and out' quite correctly pointed out earlierswannsong wrote:Stokes wasn't pissed off !Bomber wrote:I know many kiwis who are mighty pissed off!six and out wrote:..........he was very English when his court case was going on.
(I think that even though I was actually born in England I am decidedly more Australian than Stokes is English but I've never punched anyone on the streets in front of a CC camera to find out.)
I remember in the E&DJSA they would decide tied Queens Birthday Cup Carnival games with a corner count back.
I think that even though I was actually born in England I am decidedly more Australian than Stokes is English.
Still don't understand why wickets lost are not used as part of the process to decide tied games...but, them's the rules..
Just saw a post game interview with Stokes' Mother,.
She said " our son was brought up in the Kiwi way, to look after others who couldn't look after themselves, no matter what the situation was."
Maybe Ben has adopted that for his role in the England cricket team

Re: ODI cricket world cup
Stokes is as English as Symonds Australian to me. Not knocking either but just the way I see it.

I've lived here since I was 3 (58 years (95% of my life), and a citizen since I was 10 (84% of my life) ...and my Dad also served here for about a year in 1946...God is an Englishman wrote:What makes you think you're more Australian than Stokes is English?

Ben Stokes has lived in the UK for 16 years (57% of his life)....not sure how or, why he became eligible to play for England ie citizenship-family origins...

I completely agree, however he qualifies the same way as some of these people seem to think they're australian. Obviously the wannabes aussies have learnt the hypocrisy.six and out wrote:Stokes is as English as Symonds Australian to me. Not knocking either but just the way I see it.

Stokes is the son of rugby league player and coach Gerard Stokes. He moved to England at a young age after his father was appointed head coach of Workington Town rugby league club, and grew up in the small West Cumbrian town of Cockermouth, playing cricket for Cockermouth Cricket Club; he won the North Lancashire & Cumbria Cricket League Premier Division Title with the club as a 15-year-old in 2006. As of 2013 his parents have moved back to New Zealand and again reside in Christchurch,[3] along with Ben's brothers.

Re: ODI cricket world cup
Doesn't Stokes actually have some Maori ancestry ?
I think in the past the condition of the ball has been altered by lolly spit, sunscreen, Vaseline, spikes, zippers, fingernails, teeth, deliberate scuffing etc.etc.
Or maybe dropped temporarily for apparently street fighting..Stitch This wrote:Khawaja to be dropped from Ashes squad for not being an Australian.

Or are you going to post snippets from all the England team's Wiki pages.ozzie owl wrote:From Wikipedia.swannsong wrote:I've lived here since I was 3 (58 years (95% of my life), and a citizen since I was 10 (84% of my life) ...and my Dad also served here for about a year in 1946...God is an Englishman wrote:What makes you think you're more Australian than Stokes is English?

Others have been caught, Atherton a prime example, this appeared worse. They have paid the price though, I have no problem with them playing - but I also have no problem with constant verbal abuse from the crowd.swannsong wrote:Doesn't Stokes actually have some Maori ancestry ?

The ICC rules say if you have played in a country for 4 years you can then play for that country.swannsong wrote:I've lived here since I was 3 (58 years (95% of my life), and a citizen since I was 10 (84% of my life) ...and my Dad also served here for about a year in 1946...God is an Englishman wrote:What makes you think you're more Australian than Stokes is English?

No problem. Sport and fans go together, sledging from the opposing fans is acceptable to me.MegaBonus wrote:even at significant stages of the game??? eg upon reaching 50 or 100 hundred runs? what about when he's walking into bat or after a dismissal?
Broad gets it from the Aussies.

Re: ODI cricket world cup
All part of the theatre. Crowd can give as much as they like. Up to the players to perform despite all that. We would do no different (give them heaps) if the shoes were on the other foot.
After a while it will become tedious, then anyone still doing it will look more a right twat, especially if Warner, Smith & Bancroft (if selected) play well and make big scores (and winning would help).

I noticed many of the members (at Lords) gave each Aussie player a warm round of applause. Even if they made only a small contribution with the bat (maybe sarcasm?).MegaBonus wrote:im not referring to the laws of the game but rather the etiquette of spectators
