playing up a year level
thoughts on this, can it be beneficial for the player involved...
the most important question is who decides this, the coach, player or parent?

Re: playing up a year level
I have a number of kids playing up between 1 and 2 age groups, it's always been a decision made between the player, their family and the coaches. It can be extremely beneficial but communication is required as the player may find themselves out of their depth and their enjoyment will suffer and so will their development.
It is vitally important that the player is also always registered in their correct age group so that they can move back into their age group if required.

Re: playing up a year level
Should be the coach(es) in consultation with TD or development manager (whatever you call it). It should be made clear from outset that if you are good enough and playing above your age ability, then to expect it to happen at some point.romarios shin wrote:thoughts on this, can it be beneficial for the player involved...

Doubt player them self or parent could dictate this??

i have seen a few parents over the years dictate what age group their son/daughter plays in. not for developmental purposes but because the older team is winning games and their own age group is not.Bomber wrote:Should be the coach(es) in consultation with TD or development manager (whatever you call it). Well that's a shame and another reason why parents need to understand that paying fees alone doesn't entitle you to dictate anything at all (apart from ensuring child's safety). Hence why I mentioned "make it clear from the outset" - if they don't want to comply with such requests, then I would politely ask them to seek elsewhere as it clearly doesn't create a very good environment and opens up cans of worms for others. Development includes learning about losing and how to get better (eg learning from the opposition that beats you).romarios shin wrote:i have seen a few parents over the years dictate what age group their son/daughter plays in. not for developmental purposes but because the older team is winning games and their own age group is not.Bomber wrote:Should be the coach(es) in consultation with TD or development manager (whatever you call it). Got that exact issue right now.
1) Dont join a club 4 months after trials and expect to do whatever the fk you like.
2) The decision will be made by the TD if they player should play up.or not.
3) Abide by the process or piss off.

exactly right. it should only be decided by the TD not the parent/child (some parents have a skewed view of their childs ability but that's for a whole new thread)limozeen wrote:Got that exact issue right now.

Yep. And coming from a non fed club maybe suss out the standard first . Just because the kid played up a year in E&D doesn't mean they should now. Arrogant chardonnays seriously piss me off.romarios shin wrote:exactly right. it should only be decided by the TD not the parent/child (some parents have a skewed view of their childs ability but that's for a whole new thread)limozeen wrote:Got that exact issue right now.

Seems to be a demographic thing

Re: playing up a year level
What if a kid is good enough to play up but parents don't want him to maybe due to friendship groups or not being physically ready? Surely the club cant force them too.

Re: playing up a year level
Maybe not, but are you there for a kick-about with mates or to progress/develop? Getting out of your comfort zone is part of development, so think this would be an unfortunate situation. Again why these things need to be addressed up front.Ga Pala wrote:What if a kid is good enough to play up but parents don't want him to maybe due to friendship groups or not being physically ready? Re: playing up a year level
Id recommend the parents to have their child to play park or school football if they dont wont to see they son/daughter to develop.Ga Pala wrote:What if a kid is good enough to play up but parents don't want him to maybe due to friendship groups or not being physically ready?
