Australia's early exit and the emergence of nations like Qatar makes the next WC qualifying period very interesting. We have struggled in the underage cups and the quality of player coming through may not be there. The FFA needs to get it agenda into a better shape or we miss out.

Sadly we are now miles behind many Asian nations who are investing huge sums into the junior development.

It is a simple reason that we have been left behind, the FFA closed the AIS down without making appropriate alternatives were set in place.

The same time that the FFA closed the AIS the rest of Asia was pumping millions into similar projects and importing expert coaches from all over the world to coach their coaches and their national squads.

Unlike Australia, their national governments of the day also realised that only Football would be the sport that the world and Europe in particular, would judge them by at the only true World Cup Finals.

Nationally controlled academies are the only way a sport can build and develop national squads that can develop a consistent standard of players.
The older I get the better I was.
