Syria versus Australia

Post by Con M »

Apparently Syria may not play their "home" game in Malaysia after all. They may drag Australia to the Middle East - Jordan, U.A.E., or Qatar.

Those dastardly inglorious basterds (the bookies) must know something - they've listed that match as being played @ 4.30am 6th Oct Adelaide time.

Kuala Lumpur is 1 hour 30 mins behind Adelaide time, so if the bookies are right, the away leg somewhere in the Middle East it is. A tougher unpredictable gig for sure.

They will probably try and play the game in Iran or Kurdistan.

How dare they drag them all the way there, near to their own country. DISGUSTING ACT!

Why have they played their other qualifiers in Malaysia?

Because of the trouble in syria and it was probably the most convenient at that time. I don't see the relevance though.

Then why would they move where they had played their "home" qualifiers? Is it just because they are playing Australia? Would they have done this if they were playing another Middle Eastern Country?

logistics of a one off match versus logistics of a pool of matches
probably easier to find a venue in Jordan or Iran for one match

Syria played all their early rounds in Oman. It's in Asia anyway so what's the problem

Why not, make Australia travel further and possibly get more than 300 turn up to game

It's irrelevant though, it's their home game. They are entitled to play it where they like. They have moved it to a place closer to their own country, don't see how anyone can complain.

Only aussies would complain about pretending to be asian and having to play games in asia.

Two people could say something and in GIAE's eyes it will be "Aussies are saying, blah blah, typical of them, blah blah".

Perhaps he still seems to believe one journalist reflects the views of all.

You are correct in that it's not many people but there is one on this thread whose wording certainly seems to imply syria are up to no good. Foxtel's facebook page even refers to it as "mind games" and how it's wrong and plenty of people agreeing with them.

Should have to be within Asia I would say, don't know where the 2nd leg would be played though.

WRONG. They haven't moved it at all.

THE Socceroos will head to Malaysia after all for the away leg of their World Cup qualifying playoff next month against Syria.

Football Federation Australia has confirmed the clash will be held at the Hang Jebat Stadium on October 5 in Malacca, with the return match to be played on October 10 at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium.

Malacca is even further away from Syria than their previous games in Seremban (althought Malacca is the place they've played their last 3).

Good TV viewing time (10.30pm in Adelaide) on Thursday 5 October.

Eastern 'burb pokie-baron pubs will have a decision to make - show endless re-runs of old AFL stuff or our National Team's live game against Syria?

You're the type who calls it "our game" but you expect skips to show your game in preference to their game.

Con calls it 'our game' because that's what it is, Our Game - it belongs to everyone because it is the World Game.

I don't think having it at ANZ Stadium is a good choice. The Socceroos brand isn't what it used to be. They didn't even sell-out the small stadium in Melbourne, for what was a bigger game. Having said that if they beat Syria, I will go to the decider, which I believe will be in Sydney
