Good questions

1) Corner
2) Is the ball in play at the time? Red card to the offender though
3) IDFK and a caution for Unsporting Behaviour
4) when a more serious offence has happened after the initial offence
5) Start of the 2nd half

To add to GIAE's answer above, a referee must also blow his whistle to restart play if he has stopped play to caution/send off a player.

Not taking the piss, but have you ever thought about taking up refereeing?

I AM MAD!

I am qualified (albeit at a low level) and have been known to referee the occasional amateur game - not done so for a few years now though.

I believe the answer to 1 is a goal since the ball is in play as soon as it leaves the box regardless of if it rebounds off a player or the ref

You would be wrong.
No country who has never qualified for the world cup should be allowed to host it at the expense of one who has.

I believe that you cannot score an own goal direct from a goal kick and as the referee is considered part of the field of play then it would be an own goal. Same would be if it leaves the box and the win blows the ball back into the goal.

I believe the goal kick is unique in that it is direct (you can score from it) but not against your own team.

You're both wrong. It's not unique as the same rule applies to a corner.

With the dearth of decent referees in the amateur league, I think that you would probably make a very good senior ref.

I bow to your superior knowledge
I talked with a friend who is a referee and he said you are right as you can't score an own goal directly from a goal kick, along with corners and direct free kicks. Clearly i don't know the rules as well as i thought i did

Question for the readers,

Are club linesman in the amateur league permitted to verbally abuse players on the pitch? If not what would be action to take to get them to stop?

Referee should ask for them to be removed from their duties. Other sanctions can be imposed if the person is on the team sheet.

They really shouldn't be talking to anyone but the referee including 'coaching' his players.

More importantly are players permitted to verbally abuse club linesman? If not what would be action to take to get them to stop?

We see way too much of this to be honest,,, abuse from the linesman is usually responding to being abused... I say stop the cause...

Yeah I wasn't sure what the case was and the referee did acknowledge that it was happening and asked the culprit to stop, however he was unsure what he was able to do as it was a club linesman.

It's a difficult one as the rules are quite clear on the repercussions of players verbally abusing match officials, this also goes into the bucket of a linesman assaulting a player. If a player defends himself and hits the linesman back would he receive a life ban?

Not really a question, had an interesting couple scenarios during a women's match last Sunday.
The referee asked to speak to the players pre game ( why they do that I dont know, they only do half the things they say they are going to do )he gave an example on when it is and isnt acceptable to use swear words.
That didnt bother me until he started to continually swear in front of the players, I asked him not to do that ( I think that got his back up ? ) as I dont tolerate swearing at any time from anyone.
I wonder if he gave the same speel to the other team, who were a Christian Collegiate side ?

During the game, he awarded an indirect free kick just inside the penalty area, (near the centre ) neither team knew who it was for,he hesitated before he pointed in favour of the attacking side. Because it was originally awarded as in direct, didnt set up too much of the wall ( picking up the lose players ).
As the referee blew his whistle for the free to be taken he shouted "its direct" ??? Their player blasted it past the keeper for a goal, and the goal stood, despite all our protests.
I am beginning to wonder, do we seriously need official referees in the women's leagues ( lower grades anyway ) every time we have played with a club referee there have been no issues, lot of the volunteers have played the game, referee it from a players perspective.Enough said.

p.s. for those who may not be aware, only direct free kick that is awarded inside the penalty box is a penalty .
