No Macri, Cassie, MJ, yet LOTS of interstate signings..? I would have thought if fit quick players were being looked for Macri would have been an obvious choice? Izzy Scalzi another?

Did SA girls not want to play or just not selected?

Good luck ladies, wherever you are from..

Hard to gauge squad, so many new interstate names
Concerning though is lack of defenders - only 3 listed plus an attacking mid fielder being played as a defender.
Big congrats to Gray & Nagel for making squad!

Spot the difference!

AU coaches - full time professional team
Gombau
Marti
Valkanis

Lady Reds coaches - 3 month amateur team
Aloisi
Hargraves
Porter
Pezos
Jenkins

Good luck to the whole squad & support team!

Why are we giving young players from interstate development opportunities in our State forsaking local talent?

If we are going to have poor results, may as well be with 17, 18 and 19 year olds from SA as the interstaters will just come in, soak up the development opportunities and go back to their own States leaving nothing for our State. Crazy short sighted stuff.

Bite the bullet, develop local girls only, at least they will feed back into the local comp improving the standard and will also have high end experience to pass through to coaching.

I would be happy with a few mature, leadership players from interstate to help develop the local team but giving 17,18 and 19 year olds from interstate our development opportunities which are funded by local clubs and local businesses is madness.

Totally agree, these interstaters are no better than our local goals, this is where SA is going wrong- like I said in a previous thread how many will return nxt year-when Ross could of been developing our local girls with his 5 year plan, come on FFSA you need to step in and start to get this right

RA has only been appointed for this season and hence no 5 year plan.

One can only assume that given the shortest of contracts, RA has been charged with maximizing results.

Ffsa should had given RA a long term contract with the brief to develop a team of largely locally based players infused with a handful of quality interstate/ international players over next three years and most importantly, build a harmonious and uniting football culture.

We face the prospect again of rebuilding this side again in 12 months with another coach.

Appoint RA now and start the process now of ending the annual circus.

Not a single ball has been kicked in anger and there is so much everyone has to say already.

I'm not for / against the composition of the squad but you have to ask why those players were selected / weren't selected before crying foul of interstaters being selected over locals and the longer term ramifications.

If you're all so damning of the final squad, then why don't you contact your local Messenger (who has always featured Womens football when appropriate) and ask them to question Ross and his team about how they came to select the players they did.

Aloisi is a tough coach and he has come into the position with no pre-conceived politics, favourites etc - To me, regardless of where you are from - if you trial for the squad and you are the better player then you get the spot. Simples.

Do you think Adelaide United or any other A/W-League team insist on having X amount of local players to appease the keyboard warriors? Development is done in development squads - not in the W-League. Bring back the winning mentality that used to be around with the SASI Buffalo Pirates - thats when we used to actually win games and receive real respect from the opposition!

From what I know direct from the players who did trial, Aloisi is a demanding coach with high expectations. He is not afraid to say what he thinks and quite frankly if the players who want to play at a senior level in the top womens league - well they need to take all comment and criticism as it comes. Too often these days young players are too inexperienced, immature or have been living off everyone else's praises 'oh but you are such an amazing player/ mentality' to even comprehend anything out of the soccer square they know.

I want our squad to win. I want them to fight and strive to be the best they can. I don't want players to be taken along for the ride because of who they know or what their reputation might be. Train like your legs are going to fall off. Work for your team mates and get the right mentality back into the squad.

Good luck to the squad and the coaching staff - I will be out supporting the team from the sidelines on match day!!

Of course RA will pick the best players for his squad.

The issue is that SA govt, local clubs and local business are funding this so the giving of "opportunity" has a cost. Clearly we will not be in finals so we can only hope we do not finish bottom again. The cost of gaining some respect for being off the bottom may well be at a loss for some local talent but the rest of the local players may be inspired by the improvement. Yes, needs a 5 year plan.

Why is FFSA funding the development of players from interstate?
"I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. That's why I succeed." -Michael Jordan

You can't compare the A-league to W-league, Money dominates the A-league that's why there r not so many local players. There is no money in W-league and we're trying to promote girls soccer and keep older girls in the sport, in recent years a lot of amazing older soccer players have left the sport THATS WHY we want to keep local girls playing in W-league not interstaters. Theres a huge reason why we have so many interstaters here trialing- there not good enough to play for there own state, and by the last couple of games there not good to play for the Lady Reds.

Adelaide United build on Season 7 squad
Headlined by 37 year old captain Kristy Moore, Adelaide United coach Ross Aloisi has added more names to his 2014 W-League squad.

The squad sees the return of several of the top performers who assisted the Lady Reds to their best W-League season to date, as well as promising new players.

Moore, who was the heartbeat of the team, returns for her third W-League season after spending the off season playing for the third place finishing Ottawa Fury in the North American USL W-League.

“As captain last year I was very proud of what we achieved, setting new standards for the Lady Reds and this year it would be great to top that and bring home some silverware,” said Moore.

“Last season we showed glimpses of what we are capable of under Ross and his coaching staff. We were a little inconsistent at times, however that is expected with a group of young players and we had to get to know each other as a team and learn each others strengths and weaknesses.”

Returning with Moore is young defender Jenna McCormick. McCormick was one of the key pieces in the United defence with her efforts earning her the Player of the Year ahead of a strong field that included Moore and Melissa Barbieri.

Adelaide have also retained the services of Tiarn Powell, Jessie Wharepouri, Daila Borg, Monique Iannella, Emily Condon, Isabel Hodgson and former Norwegian international and influential midfielder Lisa-Marie Woods.

Aloisi has also promoted several players from his SA National Training Centre program with young South Australians Lauren Steer, Dylan Holmes (17) and Alexandra Chidiac (15) set to make their first W-League appearances.

Both Holmes and Chidiac have impressed in their NTC season. Chidiac, in particular, has created some buzz in recent years with the attacking midfielder named the Women’s Premier League Player of the Year and Rising Star Player of the Year in 2013 as well as being selected into the U17 Matildas, at just 14 years of age.

Georgia Campagnale has also been recruited from Women’s Premier League side Adelaide City WFC while ex-Melbourne Victory player Rachel receives another shot at the W-League.

Aloisi notes that keeping a core group from the past season was important.

“It is great to have those girls back and it is like any other professional sport, if you perform you gain a contract,” stated Aloisi.

“Because we have a lot of young girls coming through, our plan is to develop our top young players and create a culture here for the Lady Reds that in 3-4 years time that our majority of players have come through our programs.”

“That is how you build a strong culture and we started that last year, hopefully we can build on that and continue to be successful.”

While Aloisi has been able to recall the core squad, there have also been some losses including that of foundation player Racheal Quigley who looks set to join Melbourne Victory after spending the off-season playing in the Victorian Women’s Premier League.

Like last season, Adelaide United’s W-League campaign commences away from home against two time champions Sydney FC.

The Adelaide United Lady Reds (official) Facebook Page is a good one to follow if anyone is looking for current, accurate information. They have a Twitter feed as well. The Women's Game (thewomensgame.com.au), an on line publication devoted to the coverage of women's football, is another good source of information about the upcoming WLeague season, and also contains up-to-date information about the national squads. I believe Retired is the Adelaide United correspondent for The Women's Game.

Lastly, the FFA website, under the competitions tab, have a section about the WLeague, with club-specific articles.
