Fox8 - Football Superstar Trials on Sunday in Adelaide

Post by admin »

Football Federation Australia (FFA) in conjunction with FOX 8 will present ‘Football Superstar’, a new eight-part reality television series giving one talented young Australian footballer the chance of a lifetime.

Footballers from around the country aged 16 to 21 are invited to audition for Football Superstar, with the aim of the series to reveal undiscovered Australian football talent and hopefully see the winner fulfil a professional football career. Football Superstar ties in with the introduction of the new National Youth League, which is set to kick off with the Hyundai A-League 2008/09 Season.

The selection process sees trials take place in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth, with up to 1,200 walk up entries permitted in each city.

Trials in Adelaide will be held on Sunday May 4 at Marden Sports Complex. Registrations at Marden Sports Complex begin at 7.15am.

Adelaide United Coach Aurelio Vidmar will be at the trial to cast an eye over the local talent while current Qantas Under 23s members Bruce Djite and Kristian Sarkies will also make an appearance to throw their support behind South Australia’s promising up and coming talent.

Each of the trial sessions will involve a series of scientifically designed skills tests devised by the Australian Institute of Sport in conjunction with coaching experts.

A process of elimination through a number of phases sees a top 10 selected from each state to go to Sydney for the weekend intensive training before the 50 are cut down to a top 15, who will spend four weeks with Sydney FC at the club’s training ground. Across the four weeks the 15 hopefuls will get whittled down to 3 by Sydney FC’s coaching staff before an eventual winner is announced.

The television series will focus on the journey of the final 15 finalists being narrowed down as the participants learn about what it takes to be a professional footballer both on and off the field.

Over the course of the series, a guest football star, including the likes of current Qantas Socceroo and English Premier League star Lucas Neill, Sydney FC’s Tony Popovic and Steve Corica among others, will feature across the eight episodes.

Former Adelaide United and current Sydney FC Coach John Kosmina will announce the winner, the chosen ‘Football Superstar’ winning a season long contract with the Sydney FC youth team, a one year scholarship from Macquarie University and a ‘category 1 Sports Scholarship’.

Football Superstar is due for broadcast in June 2008.

FOOTBALL SUPERSTAR Trial Format

Phase 1: 1200 maximum walk up pre trialist participate in 1 v 1 playoff with objective of reducing to 600 maximum to phase 2

* More than 1200 walk up pre trialists will participate in an individual elimination process involving skills display with the objective of reducing to 600 maximum to phase 2.

Phase 2: 800 phase 2 trialists made up of 200 pre entries and 600 phase 1 winners will compete in 3 testing components to test the overall football ability. The results of these 3 tests - dribbling, heading skill and control and shooting, will be entered into an electronic scoring system and multiplied by set multiple as to how important individual skill component is to find the top 100 to move to phase 3.

Phase 3: Top 100 finalists from above compete in 2 testing modules:

The first module 1 v 1 match play opponent will be determined by the position from phase 2 for example - position 1 will verse position 100 and so forth.

Other than the draw for the 1 v 1 all phase 2 scores will be now be deleted and all players will start with 0 score for phase 3.

The second testing module for phase 3 is the passing circuit.

The results of the 2 phase 3 modules will be entered into the electronic scoring database and each test will be multiplied by how important that skill is to find the complete football superstar. In the event of tied points in the top 100 the final placing will be determined by the ranking from phase 2.

Is it just me or is that stupid?

Two day's notice and trials on a game day! Oh well, any chance is a good chance.

Anyone from here going?

Good luck 8)
