Junior League Structures

Post by magnet »

It was announced at the Junior Delegates meeting that the JSL format will change from having these leagues geographically based and will become a tiered approach, similar to that of the JPL. This will start next season.

They've finally seen some sense.

Also U12's to 9v9 to align with other countries. That won't happen until 2020 if it gets over the line.

Still don't understand how they suggest it was geographically based. Last year we played From Elizabeth Grove to South Adelaide and Sturt.

South, Sturt and Cumberland have multiple JSL teams at some age groups so they put one of their teams in the central/north league as well.

Can clubs then still have multiple JSL teams with 2 or 3 teams in the same division or is going to be only one club side per div.

Any news on the draft league structures for 2019. Based on past years the draft came out for comments about mid December. Would be interested to see how the jsl leagues end up.

JSL nominations aren’t due until end of January so the structure will not be known until mid-February.

Is that a bit later than last year or the same time? I thought you could nominate teams earlier but withdraw just before the the draft fixtures were sorted. Can't verify this with data but seemed like there were a larger number if teams withdrawn at the last minute for the season just played.

JPL and JSL nominations were done together previously but JSL has been separated out this year. I’m assuming this is due to so many teams withdrawing in January-March.

Thought that might be the case. Hope that doesn't delay the jpl league structures though. Seemed like a few of the initially proposed jsl teams ended up in the jpl c divisions at the last minute this season.

Fair few u17 teams this year. Wonder if the quality will improve. I saw 3 half games of u17 in 2018 and they were not a particularly high standard.

18’s is not for everyone, some players want to go down the amateur path. I know lots of our 17’s turned down 18’s as they didn’t want the additional training nights in year 11. Plenty of clubs looking for 18’s players still.

Fair enough then. Life gets real in year 11 and 12.
What are they typical squad numbers for seniors teams. Have heard about 4 clubs have 20 players for u18s. A fair few players won't get much game time especially if the clubs don't have an u17 team for them to go play in on a Sunday.

I've watched plenty of U18 games and I don't find it a particularly competitive environment. A big disparity in the age of players. Some of the bigger clubs have mostly 17 year olds playing and others are blooding 14/15 year olds.

Is the disparity mostly in state league 2? Or across the board.

I didn't watch any State league 2, these were NPL and State League 1.

I see Blue Eagles U14's have been moved from JPLB to JPLC despite finish mid-table last year.

seems strange that one, maybe they lost a lot of players and were not sure if they would be competitive.

If the club has requested the move down a division then at least they are being honest with themselves. They might have come to the conclusion that it is better to be competitive in a lower div then cop a canning every sunday.

I presume the clubs have had enough time to give feedback on the draft structure. Are the leagues set now?
