Interesting. Apparently they commissioned a study last year into the long term affects of heading the ball and if it proves that it's detrimental to the brain health of kids they will ban heading in junior games.
If it conclusively leads to brain damage or dementia then I'd support it. On the flip side if they ban heading at junior level the skill will be near impossible to master once they get to senior level. Juniors are not heading 60 metre goal kicks.
Thoughts?

Re: UEFA to consider header ban for juniors...
If anything it would have been worse in the "old days" with waterlogged leather footballs. Teach them properly how to head the ball and really, there should be very few problems.
Nearly anything can be considered dangerous these days if you dig deep enough.
If mums and dads are worried about their little one getting brain damage, then don't let them play football. But the same parents should also stop them from jogging, cycling, driving, playing in the back yard as well as they might get hurt some other way and also have "long term consequences".

UEFA could have used this forum as a study ....
some of the ramblings from our older generations on here is evidence heading the ball causes brain damage

Probably correct. But also remember that it was much harder for young legs to get the ball up high enough for a header, when 'waterlogged'. These days the balls are very light & bounce well, very easy to send it up & long.Bomber wrote:If anything it would have been worse in the "old days" with waterlogged leather footballs. Agree with Bomber. I remember kids heading the ball direct from goalkicks.johnydep wrote:Probably correct. But as Bomber wrote, players were taught correctly how to header.
Today, they're athletes before football players
