FA new guidelines for Junior Football

Post by God is an Englishman »

Latest coming out of England
-Silent sidelines rule
Spectators are encouraged to applaud both teams (e.g.. clap when a goal is scored) but must not shot or call out. [Law 1]

-Slide tackle rule
On medical advice, no slide tackles are allowed. A free kick will be given in every instance. [Law 12]

-Blue card rule
A blue card is shown for any cautionable offence resulting in a 2 minute Sin Bin (5 minutes at 9v9). [Law 12].

-Respect marks rule
After every match, referees will marks to players, coaches and spectators from both teams. [Law 12]

-Retreat line rule
When goalkeeper has possession, opposition must retreat to halfway. Keeper must pass to own player in own half. [Law 16]

-Pass back rule
Because goalkeepers need to practice their footwork, they cannot pick up the ball from a pass back. [Law 12]

-No instructions rule
Coaches may ask questions that prompt players to think for themselves but must not shout instructions during matches. [Law 1]

-Equal playing time rule
All squad members must receive equal playing time with at least 50% per player for each game. [Law 3]

-All positions rule
All squad members must be given regular experience playing in all positions, including goalkeeper. [Law 3]

-Mixed teams rule
To maximise competition, clubs must field teams of similar ability - ie. not ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams. [Law 3]

-Power play rule
If any team goes 4 goals ahead, the other team may field an extra player until the goal difference is reduced to 3 goals. [Law 3]

-Equal numbers rule
If a team has too few players, the other must lend them willing subs or withdraw players to make numbers even. [Law 3]

The wogs stopped reading after the first point. Zero chance of them keeping their mouth shut.

No need to panic, it’s just a few ideas to be tried out for a season in one small volunteer grassroots league out of hundreds of leagues. As with most pilot schemes much of it will prove to be unworkable and be left well alone. A couple of the ideas, when modified, might have some merit, like opposing team pulling back but not in open play only for goal kicks and adding a player if 4-0 down.

Some aren't that bad for young kids, small pitch kids.
Silent sidelines- Barcelona enforce this on their parents, instructions come from coaches not parents, do you drop your kids off at school then stand at the class room door yelling out the answers all day? & Man United have had this silent sidelines at Old Trafford for their seniors for years now & they seem to be doing ok.
Slide tackles for little kids? can understand, but as soon as they move onto a big pitch game on.
Blue card? Ive never witnessed even a yellow card on small pitch football, let alone the need for a sin bin.
Respect marks? no, just no.
Retreat line- A big yes, give young kids confidence to play and remove the kid who can kick it the furthest being used as the play maker. Once they play then press by all means but let them at least make the first pass.
Pass back rules- Yes, why wouldn't you?
No instruction rule- yeh, do your coaching at training and before the game, then let the kids play. They get it wrong, use your half time break to teach. Only asking players questions? I see where they're going, teachers don't yell out the answers all day in the class room, but young kids sometimes need to be shown.
Equal playing time- Yes, its a coaches job to coach all the players and ensure they're all better players at the end of the season.
All positions- Up until 12 ish yes, big benefit playing on the field as a junior before becoming a senior gk, but should all players play in goals? well yes then they might realize how much mess they have to clean up due to on filed players mistakes.
Mix teams? Not sure about this one, but from the real young kids yes.
Power play- Yeh I like it
Equal numbers? If the opposition offer.

At first I read them & thought this is ridiculous, but when you think about sub 10 or 11 year olds, I think its not that bad.
