curious to know why you would start up a new club side for an Under 13JSL team when there are plenty of other FFSA clubs in existence and within fairly close proximity who offer the same opportunities to players.

Maybe you should question ffsa, they are all about the pathway yet they let a 1side club into their competition...... I really don't see what ffsa are doing here???????? There is no continuity in what they are doing...

You are right, there's a hell of a lot of clubs around that area. I'm all for giving the kids a chance to play but are the other local clubs operating to capacity?

Whilst we all want more boys playing football, surely this team could play under the birkalla, cobras or strikers banner on their own facility at Henley. Starting up small one offs does nothing for implementing national programs or pathway

Totally Agree - for example Cobras u13 JPL still requires 5-6 players to fill a team but if sides like this are accepted it makes it harder for everyone !

What I don't understand is that clubs have not yet nominated their Junior Teams for 2014, and until they do then the FFSA has not formally accepted them into the competition. So for a new club to be advertising for players, this can only mean the FFSA has pre-approved them to enter.

Why would they do this, if as you say, there are neighbouring FFSA clubs who have finalised their trials yet are still are needing players in the JPL competition?

It is now mandatory for all Premier League clubs to fill every age group from 6-17s, yet the FFSA is allowing (non-FFSA senior) clubs to enter the competition with just one or two junior teams. This does nothing but dilute the strength of the entire junior competition and makes it increasingly difficult for existing Premier and State league clubs (who pay the senior affiliation costs) to fill all their junior teams.

There can be no argument that such a move is about giving more opportunities for kids to play. That is just rubbish, because the opportunities are already there and not being fully taken up!

There is only one conclusion that can be drawn from this. And it appears bloodypassit is right - it is all about the mighty dollar.

Can't argue with that.

I don't see why non-FFSA senior clubs entering the competiton dilutes it? They can only enter the JSL and thats clearly indicated as a community league as far as the FFSA is concerned to generate both income for the FFSA clubs and the FFSA itself. The FFSA has to be able to encourage kids to play club soccer and there are a lot of people residing in Adelaide where travelling to the E&D or the Hills isn't practical so new clubs will appear when whats on offer within the FFSA senior clubs isn't good enough.

The FFSA clubs should be asking themselves why they are unable to fill their teams? Its not because of new clubs, they are the result of the problem, its because of - and this is me having a wild shot at a few likely reasons:--

cost, reputation, quality of coaching, culture, facilities, lack of local advertising by the club, a poorly organised committee, no long term junior policy and plan for recruiting, an intimidating trial process.

An FFSA senior club has no devine right to fill its junior teams required by the FFSA mandate, its a competitive market and they all need to look at it in this way and make sure what they offer kids and parents who want to play soccer is something they value being part of.

I attended a few clubs trials this year just to gauge numbers and the way they were run and there was significant variation. Some clubs got very few new players from other clubs because it was seen as a "closed shop" and quite frankly the trials were pretty much confirmations of preselection.
Others went on too long (5 /6 days) far too stressful and lacked assessment after the second day and some were very balanced, looked at core skills and game / spatial awareness and definitely evaluated 95% of players equally.

Hi Everyone,

Interesting set of replies for sure so here are the facts.

This is an established squad of boys that played as Fulham United U12 Red last year. They could not be accommodated at Fulham this year as a result of limited resources and were told this at the end of the season. These boys mostly attend the same school, have played together for a year (with most never playing club soccer before) and so fragmenting them across other clubs is hardly child-focused or likely to result in good development (assuming they would even continue to play in those circumstances). As more than 50% of the players come from Fulham, it was necessary for Fulham and FFSA to grant an exception as regards the limit for team transfer.

The initial thought was to run a cost conscious program at $300 to encourage in families who are otherwise ostracized by the average club rates (concession holders, large families). This was being achieved by avoiding mid-week training on grass pitches under flood-lights. After feedback from families, players and the new joiners we are adding this to program and hence the fee is now $500. I am sure we all recognize that we need to support such families in our fee structures as the game grows and develops.

Henley Heat are planning to host more than a single team to cope with the large number of schools in this area, but of course that takes time to put together. I have a strong record in that regard having played a key part in growing the Junior program at Fulham. I am therefore working to present to FFSA a solid plan ahead for end of December, and note that with growth in demand and population it is inevitable that capacity must increase at the community level, and FFSA is clearly supportive of that, as should be other clubs.

Please support these players and families in their soccer journey. Please support a hard-working coach and administrator in their efforts to support the well-being of these and other unaffiliated children. I have to express surprise that Henley Heat could generate such alarm.

Regards, Alan

Could have brought the team out to vipers at $395, we would have accomodated the side... Good luck
With the season and maybe we might end up playing each other in 2014.
