13s SA 2-1 ACT whilst 14s 2-0 v ACT, 14s goals by ex-Toros Osman Fofana and ex-Adel City Carlo Armiento, good start for both teams. You can track the tournament at the link here http://goo.gl/VeSKug

Disappointing results from day 2. Both the 13's and 14's went down to Northern NSW, 0-1 and 0-3 respectively. Hoping there was some positive performances even though our teams lost. Well done to Northern NSW federation for the coverage on their website. Results are updated regularly and clearly presented...

Is it better to win or lose? Are players and teams disappointed when they lose? I agree winning is not everything but it's a big part of football. In development football it can be used to gauge the standard of players and coaching. Normally the teams with the best players and coaches finish close to the top of the table and get more players identified, that's why they have tables! I'm sure some good performances and results will come for both teams as the week progresses.

How can you judge a 0-1 score was a disappointing loss and not a good performance, and gauge the standard of players and coaching from 2,000km away ?

Just interested to know how you analysis this sort of thing by seeing 'just the score' in junior football, and would you think the same if it was a 1-0 win, or does that then mean it was a fantastic effort and everything is rosy, and the coaching and players must be brilliant ?

u13 just lost to Victoria 1-2 ... do we again just see the loss and think another disappointing loss ?

Or do we think, "Vic and NSW have always been historically strong over the years and SA have always struggled to them due to the sheer size of those states and the pool of talented players to chose from, but looking at the scores from 2000km, it was a close game" ..... so are we slowly actually bridging the gap ?

What difference does 2000km away make to 1km away. Your either at the game or your not. Maybe you should learn to read and not just pick out a few words and then jump up and down. I haven't been critical at any point, I stated a fact that two losses is disappointing, not that the team played poorly (which they may have).

And what does a 3-0 score say? To me it says the opposition are better at scoring and preventing goals. Quite a big thing in Football? Maybe in youth football the winner should be the team that keeps the ball the longest and makes the most passes?

Zeljko, do you base any of your opinion on facts. You talk about Victoria being a powerhouse. That was there first win in the 13's and last year the SA teams won and drew against them. Over the last few years they have been unpredictable at best, they are not what they were. Its credit to SA that they have made significant improvements over the last 5 years and bridged some of the gap. But to keep improving you can't be satisfied with well done for losing 3 zip. I'm sure the players were disappointed.
Victoria have 1 outfield player in the current joeys squad, that's POWERHOUSE! SA have 4 in squad.

In response to comments about results v performance, I think we would all be interested in reviews of the games by the coaching staff for both teams, ideally on the FFSA website, but I surmise this has not been organised. In particular, how the various state teams setup (ie 4-3-3?) and play the game, and any differences they see in application including technical and creative abilities. The championships are primarily an individual player development opportunity though team results can reasonably be seen as an indicator (not the only one) of how we are performing/executing compared with other states. Each state would obviously prefer to see wins over losses but other metrices are much more important to validate their work and indicate where they can do better.

Zeljko, be great to chat, always enjoy football discussions with football people :)
Giancariored, spot on with your comments. The success of a program should be based on the number of players that go on to play at the high level, in Australia it would be A league or above. Often team success and player development go hand in hand. If you take Manchester Uniteds famous youth team known as "fergies fledglings" they won the FA youth cup in 1992. They had players such as Beckham, Butt, Giggs and Neville in the team. All were then played a big part in the 95/96 double winning team. The German U21 team that won the 2009 euros make up 6 players in the current squad.
The results v performance issue is an interesting one. It's to simplistic to just say results don't matter. My question is what do the well done brigade (probably parents) say when the team and players actually do well??

In there lies the direction football development the world over has and is going - clubs develop football players.

Football organisations have a part to play; by giving direction, assistance, rules, developing clubs, etc. But it's always the football club that develops the player and completes their apprenticeship.

viewtopic.php?f=9&t=53634 - a few articles on how other countries have built a development philosophy using their national football organisation attain development goals with clubs.

do you guys know how many players victoria, NSW and QLD have to pick from compared to SA, I think we are doing really well considering:

the amount of players we have to pick from and the poor facilities we have to work with, lets look at the positives....

Both teams went to Coffs with high expectations this year..The results dont show that we did well..13s finishing bottom and 14s second bottom...but how did they play..did they play the system well...they tell us results dont matter but have a ladder....so if the ladder doesnt count how did we actually play

When being a member of the State team does not rely on the ability to pay, then maybe the most talented players will get selected.

How much does it cost for parents to send their son the Coffs - $1500? $1800? What about the State Futsal team that competes in Canberra every year, is that not around $1500 as well?

Why are not these representative or select teams free of any cost to players/parents?

I have no idea if the FFSA's SAP or Skilleroos programs are free of charge to participants, but if they aren't, then they should be.

As a matter of interest, which talented players did not get selected to go to Coffs due to the cost ?

u13 Skilleroos is 11 mths of training/playing FREE plus all their gear, as it is an FFA scholarship

SAP is a minimal fee, to cover ground hire and uniforms
(from memory, last year was $200 and they got about 25 sessions plus kit over summer)

FFSA squads and state/national representation should be at zero cost, is my point.
