I think Milan's academy thread could do with your input now that you've officially retired from this one.

with the new developments with AU and Enfield, will it affect this structure? Enfield will be in the SL next season, will AU settle for having their age groups in the lower leagues? This is a big moment for 'as long as the coaching is good it doesn't matter what div you play in...'

Up to the senior team to get them promoted. Simple.

Exactly, they need one year to settle, you watch Enfield win the league next year with a bought team just like WA.

Guess what, Playford and any other SL club can do the same, the ones that can't need to look within their fund raising / sponsors etc and ask why not and fix it. If it's too hard then maybe that club doesn't belong in the PL, just like many English clubs that will never see above div2 or 3, including the 15 EPL clubs that will rarely see UCL.

I'm not so sure they (Enfield seniors) will suddenly be that far ahead so soon. They will be young, have to cope with "average" pitches and may lack the "heart" of a Modbury, Playford, Cobras or an Olympic team. In their favour admittedly, will be the long season, which will give them further scope.
Will be interesting when a player scores, if he'll kiss the Enfield badge!

Adelaide United FC is pleased to announce a ‘satellite club’ relationship with the Enfield City Football Club (ECFC) after the unanimous acceptance of a new constitution by the ECFC members at a special meeting held at their clubrooms last night.
Reds General Manager – Football Operations Michael Petrillo declared the announcement is a landmark decision for both clubs.
“The Enfield City committee was extremely enthusiastic about gaining the support of Adelaide United,” Petrillo said.
“After weeks of discussions the committee fully supported the proposed Heads of Agreement (HOA) presented to them along with the new constitution, which will see the club implement a new Executive Board made up of three current Enfield City representatives, three Adelaide United representatives – one of which will be the Adelaide United appointed Chairperson who will have the casting vote.
“The current ECFC Committee will become the ‘working committee’ operating the day-to-day activities of the club under the direction of the Board.”
One of the key objectives of the partnership surrounds the ability and opportunity to keep Adelaide United’s National Youth League squad together in an all year program.
“The intention is to have the majority of our Youth players in the future playing for ECFC as this is the best way forward to develop more players and give them the chance of reaching the Hyundai A-League,” Petrillo said.
This move follows the direction of Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar, the Newcastle Jets and the Central Coast Mariners, who will all have their Youth teams playing in the top tier of their local leagues from next season.
“The difference with our project is that we have been able to preserve the integrity and history of a local club whilst still having all the benefits of having a year round program”, Petrillo said.
“The further benefit of our partnership with Enfield City is that we have the ability for players to come into our program from eight years of age right through to the National Youth League level which is something the other Hyundai A-League clubs don’t have.
“If players don’t make it to the A-League then they will return to the other clubs within the local competitions whilst still quite young and having had a professional training program behind them. Our project will eventually benefit all clubs in the state which in turn benefits Adelaide United in identifying local talent.”
“Any club that provides a player to our National Youth League program and goes on to become an A-League player with Adelaide United in the future will receive the full transfer fee – that part will not change.”
Adelaide United FC will appoint all Enfield City coaches, who will not only have the required FFA Coaching License but also undergo an intensive internal course under the instruction of Reds Senior Coach Josep Gombau, who is a qualified UEFA Coaching instructor and former Director of the FC Barcelona Academy.
“We will coach the coaches so that all players at Enfield will receive the best coaching possible,” Petrillo said.
“The education of coaches at ECFC will be paramount in the development of the player. The club will invest continuously in the coaching of the players. The emphasis will be on the coach’s education to give the players the best environment in which to develop, which will always be the philosophy of the club.”
The benefits to Adelaide United FC in running an existing club in the FFSA competition are;
• The ability to have all infrastructures already in place including grounds and a ‘working committee’ needed to operate the club.
• By keeping the ECFC name and colours it means there will be no Adelaide United brand competing against local clubs.
• The ability to have an influence in how youth players are developed from an early age, which should produce a greater volume of A-League players for the future.
• Will provide a better pathway for NTC Program players who do not go to the AIS.
• Allow National Youth League players the ability to stay in a 12-month professional program, training and playing under the same philosophy.
• Players who do not achieve A-League standard will eventually return to other clubs within the competition as significantly better players than what they would have been, thus improving the overall standard of the local competition.
• Further develop the junior programs in the future through the ECFC Inc.
“This opportunity provides Adelaide United with short, medium and long-term benefits we cannot achieve without the partnership. All professional clubs around the world are responsible for their own junior development programs,” Petrillo said.
“We as a club now have the opportunity and the need to take that responsibility and develop our own players in our own way aligned with our philosophy.
“This decision will be a landmark one in the history of not only Adelaide United but also junior development in this State. It will provide more opportunities for South Australian players to become A-League players and raise the standard of the local competition in the future.”
This year Enfield City competed in the local Premier League but will start 2014 in the second tier State League after being relegated this season. The club was founded in 1946 as the Prospect Soccer Club and have produced a host of great players over the years including former Reds Iain Fyfe, Jason Spagnuolo and Robert Cornthwaite, as well as ex Socceroo David Mitchell. Enfield City currently has twelve teams playing in the various age groups from U-11 up to the Senior Team.
Their home ground is at Rushworth Reserve in Blair Athol while their junior teams have training grounds at Gepps Cross Reserve.

seems this will be the new for all clubs to aspire too and the PL needs to be better again looks like a win win

I was told a few weeks ago this now won't be going ahead because the coach who was getting it up and running has gone to Raiders to be a senior assistant! can anyone from the cove confirm?

The Cove FC can confirm that their junior development plans will be going ahead as previously indicated.

.

Our structure was to split the Director of football role into two seperate roles (Junior and senior) however we had the unfortunate issue of our Senior Director of Football leaving three weeks after starting his role as he was made an offer to lucrative for us to compete.

We have now almalgamated the dual role back into a single role of Director of Football.

Tom Ballentyne (current Asia A licence holder) will be filling this role.

The Cove FC plans have not changed and we will be seeking to implement a whole of club development stucture from 1st team down in 2014 and beyond. This stucture not only focuses on player development, but also is built on a foundation of coach education and development. The clubs ambition is to have independant coaches with minimum junior licenses across all junior grades, a ssg identification program, an internal elite development acadamy, a community skills aqusition program for both boys and girls, all in addition to a very young vibrant and ambitious senior group with in the next 2 years.

in 2014 we plan on fielding 2 teams in all ssg ages , 2 teams in 12's -14's and a single team in 15's & 16's with an identified transiton program for senior football at u18's.

We can also announce that Seely international have come on board as our major junior sponsor to compliment our ever growing corporate support as we seek to achieve these goals

Trials for all our squads have commenced and early numbers are very encouraging.

The Cove FC has grow from a one team club in 2008 to a club supporting 300+ playing members across all levels and we are still growing, we are activly working with all levels of government to continue to enhance our faclities so as we can continue to grow.

If true, what is being achieved waiting 1 year ?

Effected teams if it went ahead in 2014

u12s
South Adelaide (pending)
Playford
Seaford
Modbury (pending)

u13s
Salisbury
South Adelaide (pending)

u14s
Enfield

u15s
Salisbury

7 teams (less if South Adl seniors go up instead of Modbury) out of 42 teams in the 13s, 14s, 15s, 16s

And it will happen the year after anyway, so what is being achieved by waiting another year ?

If there were 15+ teams, then fair enough
No disrespect to any of these teams, but I just can't see why we are waiting if its going to happen anyway ?

If your team was one of those listed above I'm sure you would have a different opinion.

These exact same teams will be effected next year if their seniors don't get promoted, plus possibly even more if SL teams finish 1st or 2nd in their B leagues next year

And I'm looking at it from a CLUB perspective, and not just a single team .... I coach for my club, and not just a single team

If there was 3 or 4 teams affected from a single SL club, then yes, I can see the disappointment

A few old fat men with only a misguided sense of what is best for their club have halted an improvement in junior football in this State.

The pressure on well meaning junior coaches to get promotion or starve off relegation instead of improving the individual players remains.

The FFSA implements rules on club names and ground regulations yet lacks balls in improving junior football, the essence of football

it will happen, one more year won't kill the sport.

we can then make sure that we can satisfy the opposing clubs that they won't spontaneously combust and we can move forward as one big happy family.

and that goes for AU too if they start to behave in a civilized manner.

So assigning the best juniors to the clubs that spend the most on their Seniors is doing the best thing for football in this State????

Ok....????

I think it is doing the best things for the clubs that spend the most on their seniors.....

I would love to see a criteria/points system that rewards clubs that further Junior development, it would be so easy to implement and administer.

I thought the FFSA weren't meeting till tomorrow....is this gossip or inside knowledge?

What about the clubs that might have got relegated this year who will now lose players, but next year be expected to compete back in the top league as their seniors are in the top league

the pps will stop clubs buying in players as the allowable points cap drops

in ten years time, if you haven't been developing your juniors, money won't mean squat, you'll be in the state league

start worrying about your junior coaching structures and forget about who youre playing on Sunday.

Being an Amateur league club with FFSA juniors I can assure you we do...This is why I think it is unfair....Clubs should be judged on their junior structure, not what their seniors do....After all it is about developing the kids isn't it.

Accredit clubs on their coaching and development structure...The proposed system allows clubs to be lazy, just because their seniors play in the PL they can attract the best juniors but rest on their laurels...
