Bright future for Toros star
http://portside-messenger.whereilive.co ... oros-star/
OSMAN Fofana came to Pennington from Liberia, West Africa, 10 years ago as his family searched for a better life.
They found one.
Four years ago Osman, 13, won a scholarship with the Toros Soccer Club, allowing him to pursue his dream of becoming a soccer star.
"I came to Australia in 2003 and I moved here with my mum and Dad and I've been at the club for five years," he said.
"I was just looking for something to do and a sport to get involved in and I was lucky to be offered a spot and I've been playing ever since at Toros."
The scholarship program has helped the 13 year-old excel with soccer and also helped him feel accepted within the Pennington community.
"I just love playing and try to do the best for the club; they have helped me to become a role model, my soccer skills have improved and I've been able to help the team and the club," he said.
"It's like a family at the club they treat me like I'm part of the club and the community and its very nice."
The Portside Messenger caught up with Osman this week as part of our regular My Suburb focus, which includes a range of stories on a different suburb each month.
Osman's coach Marcus Vivian said he had a big future.
"I know in the future if he sticks to it that one day well be able to sit at home and say, 'Remember that boy?'," he said.
"He deserves everything, he really does."
Team Manager and Assistant Coach Frank Scorsonelli described Osman as a 'shinning light' for the club.
"He is by far is one of the standouts and seems to have the most maturity out of the group," he said.
"Osman is our captain, he is the state captain and he has his head screwed on the right way."

Who cares how old he is if he's enjoying himself and he's got a club close to where he lives that gives him time?

Coach has done a great job with these lads.
Took them at U13 after finishing bottom at U12 with 2 wins, immediate promotion into the As at U13 and now sit top 5 in the As at U14. Coach, and players should be proud, and they are still developing and getting better.

Well done to the coach and players - hopefully they can stay together for a couple more years and really develop into fine players and proudly represent the club which would filter into the other teams to aspire to their best ability.AL K HOLIC wrote:Coach has done a great job with these lads.

Yep, moved because of what you said, nothing to do with player or the age group he plays in ....
