What happened to Greek background Soccer Carnivals?

Do you like talking to yourself? Do you like continually talking about the same topic? Do you watch football games from outside the perimeter fence to avoid paying entry fees? Do you like reliving past glories over and over and over and over? If so then this is the forum might be for you. You can grind your axes to your hearts content in this forum.

What happened to Greek background Soccer Carnivals?

Post by Tzon »

Shoot goal

I remember playing in a few in the 1980's held at Salisbury Florina Ground.
And others held at Park B27 and Regency Park when with the Adelaide Raiders SC now Comets .

Now with more clubs in the NPL including Comets why doesn't the Community get together and continue these Carnivals say pre-season?

Comets are welcome and Amateur clubs.

Remember when the Adelaide Raiders held one at Regency Park in the 1990's and the winners trophy was in the shape of The Akropolis.

Olympians won against The Adelaide Raiders SC now Comets in the final.
I played for the AR.

You know the answer, why ask?

Some of the points you have mentioned -

* Cost - volunteers need to be paid for travel, and other expenses.
Quote - "True story:
In the good old days of Hellas pre NSL everybody got paid eg shirt washers, canteen workers etc no volunteers.
Only the junior colts had volunteers at Park B27." unquote
* Experience - past volunteers / staff / members that have given their time no longer want to help or be part of the game.
Quote - "JD
Soccer use to be my life, now I have a life.

Call it a Glendi style carnival.

The answers are easy eg share expenses and share profits.

Sponsors like
Olympic industries
Gagannis
Delphi Bank
Etc etc

No one is interested in that sort of thing any more - too much else to do that provides better entertainment value.

Especially, if could stand on a chair outside a ground and not pay an entrance fee. Of course, it couldn't be too far from the city like Angle Park (He suggested the Elite Systems Football Centre for the Greek carnival !!). Oh sorry, JD now has a life, doesn't he? No time to go to any game!

I'd imagine about the same usefulness as his contribution to this forum.
Ernie Merrick: Of course I am happy when my team scores a goal, it's just that sometimes I forget to tell my face. (On why Ernie doesn't smile on the sideline.)

Reality is there are plenty like me who do not attend much NPL these days compared to the old days including the new generation .

FFSA and clubs should start thinking what are they really offering spectators or supporters or followers of clubs not what "we" should offer them.

If the " product" is broke?
What is the FFSA going to do to fix it?

Then we might see value we like to buy or spend at.

Maybe prize money has something to do with it?
Maybe after spending high fees to send children to play or kick a ball at FFSA junior clubs there is not enough spare $$'s to go watch NPL ?
Maybe the continual changes to FFSA formats has lost the customers?
Maybe the continual kicking the ethnic who use to pump big time money into the game has grown wiser and has had enough of it?
?????

JD, you go on about what the club can offer you and then talk about prizemoney??? Do you want prizemoney for attending local matches???
I could post to you what Olympic offers its supporters whether it be through Membership, Season Ticket &/or Sponsorship but I ain't going to waste my time bcoz you DONT WANT TO SUPPORT A LOCAL CLUB. You've created a post here about a Hellenic carnival (which is in the pipeworks by the way) BUT let me ask YOU a question. How many Australians of Hellenic heritage support a local Hellenic club and then how many attend that clubs games on a regular basis, how many don't attend at all & why not???

Don't come on here beating your chest like some MUNGA who knows it all talking about Hellenic clubs when you fit into the category of Hellenes who doesn't even support a local Hellenic club let alone attend any matches.
Either come down to a game or STFU.
I'll even go as far as giving you an opportunity to come to one Olympic Home game AT NO COST to you (I'll wear it personally), meet the hard working committee members & volunteers, answer some of your questions, allow you to watch the game in the grandstand, along a fence, on the Eastern Hill or behind the goals, and then after the game you can tell me about your experience. During all that, go but yourself a Yiros & a Greek beer and enjoy the fine food & drink we put on.
Are you prepared to take the challenge???
I'll even allow the game to be the Hellenic Derby next Sunday afternoon v Westies.
Accept or STFU, which will it be???

Col please don't fall off your Olive Tree just because of my comments.

Firstly I did not bag any volunteers. A big bravo to all.

Great to hear you have taken The Greek Soccer Carnival theme onboard.

Next if the match is on Sunday sorry not a NPL soccer day for me I watch at times Florina and JPL .

This is what I mentioned the continual changes at NPL level eg different days and times games are playing ridiculous .

Lastly thank you for the offer .
No problems I have cash to pay entrance fees, yiros and beers always.

Good luck on Sunday . If Olympic wins? Gee wah2 in big trouble?
