Qantas Matildas and Young Matildas goalkeeper Lydia Williams has been nominated in the category of Female Sportsperson of the Year for the 2006 Deadly Awards. The Deadlys are the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Awards, celebrating Indigenous excellence in music, sport, the arts, entertainment and community achievement.

Lydia, who grew up in rural Western Australia and now lives in Canberra, has already represented Australia on four occasions at the age of just 18, including at July’s AFC Women’s Asian Cup where the Qantas Matildas finished second and in the process qualifying for the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She recently returned from Russia having represented the Qantas Young Matildas at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Championship for whom she has made ten appearances.

Lydia is one of four nominees in the category alongside netballer Bianca Franklin, and basketball duo Michelle Musselwhite and Rohanee Cox.

Nominations closed in late July with the awards to be held at the Sydney Opera House on Thursday 21 September.

Winners are decided by the public with voting and further background information available at the following website:-

Qantas Socceroo defender Jade North won an award in 2002 in the ‘Most Promising New Talent in Sport’ category.

North, along with Travis Dodd, last month became the first pair of indigenous Australians to appear in the same Qantas Socceroo line-up, while in the same match Dodd became the first indigenous Australian to score for the Qantas Socceroos in a full international.

When it comes to choosing anyone in woman football then I will choose Lydia Williams because she is fit and athletic. She is a woman`s football goalkeeper, playing in the team of Australia. I prefer to check bestessays review and get more useful materials. I am glad that she has been nominated in the section of woman Sportsperson. I want to thank the author for writing this amazing article.
