Round 11

Post by SAD GAL »

Amen to the WNPL round 11 program. Big round of games. Some games will be hard to pick. A week off will help some and others who had started to get momentum may have wished they'd played last Friday.

Games as follows.

Adelaide University up against Adelaide City
Salisbury Inter against the NTC
West Adelaide against Cumberland
Metro United against Fulham

My picks for tonight

Adelaide University against Adelaide City
Salisbury Inter against NTC
West Adelaide against Cumberland
Metro United against Fulham
The goalkeeper is the jewel in the crown and getting at him should be almost impossible. It's the biggest sin in football to make him do any work.

Agree M@rvin, except I think NTC will beat Salisbury.

I was undecided on this one so went with the home team.

Uni 0-6 City
Inter 1-1 NTC
Westies 3-0 Cumby
Metro 3-1 Fulham

City dominant over Uni, a great effort by Fulham especially considering they were 2-0 down after 10 minutes.

Interesting results all round.

Even though the consensus was for the top 3 to continue their winning ways, there are 3 competitions within the one going on. How it pans out at the end of the season will be interesting.
Top 3 shootout and where each of the 3 will finish will be the team that has the depth and fitness and players that can play the coach’s game plan will dictate the finishing order. Not dropping a point against teams below them in 4-7 spot will be the challenge.

A fight is on for the 4th spot. Inconsistency with Uni may cost them. NTC are doing really well. I thought the speed, strength and rigours of the premier league would see them fall away. Kudos to their coaching and support team for the program they have in place. Exciting talent abounds. Salisbury is interesting. Will they continue to build consistency? For me, they’re the team to make the top 4.

Now the bottom 2. Cumby’s ability to grind out a draw will be sufficient for them to remain second to bottom and possibly go into a playoff to remain in the WNPL. I hope they stay and recruit some good forwards not getting a regular game in another team. Do that and they are a 4-6 placed team.

Fulham. Straight sets exit. The return of max to the coaching team will not alter the situation greatly. Taking a goal away from metro is no easy feat however a -46 GD is where the damage is done.

How much does it help NTC training at the parks on the artificial turf?
Lots, some or none.

I think it would disadvantage NTC if they had to play their games on grass. But I think the experience level is such in the competition that they don’t get any great advantage by training at the parks. The players in other sides have played on it enough by now to know how it will run.

Teams play at the Parks and have done so for a few years. I don't think it's is an issue.

I agree that some exposure to grass is VERY important in their development.

FFSA still to decide if West Adelaide will lose 3 league points for not fielding an U15s team as per the WNPL criteria and regulations, a penalty they have been handed in the past I think in 2016. Could be very costly.

Given the rule and past precedence, one would think a points penalty is a given.
