Croydon Women's Coach Fired

Post by Pitchy »

Does anyone have any information about the Croydon women's coach being fired over the weekend?

Talking to one of the Croydon players, they said he has a lifetime ban from the club and the FFSA may also ban him??!?!

Sad times for Croydon Women's Team! And the State League Women's Competition.
Croydon's coach was told his services no longer required, and was sacked due to poor performance.
Bit rude when he did all the hard yards and organised both teams including the coaching/recruiting for the last 18 months with little or no help!!
A very capable Interim Coach was organised to take over at Sunday's game and coach for the remainder of the year and next year. He has now left as he witnessed the shambles! No warm up balls, no club open, no linesman for Reserves, no Team Manager, no help, no support, and having to coach the Reserves and State League team. He also witnessed the passion the team had for the previous coach!
So trainings have been cancelled by the Club Committee and the game this week postponed.
While the committee search for another coach!!!
Could not see this type of behaviour happening with there Men's team!!!

I spoke to a number of Croydon players over the last few days and yes there is a very small group that have passion for the coach, however the majority of them are glad to see him go. They are over everything and want to move on and play football.

Poor performance was a very small part of it, it was due to his poor behaviour. He has broken the FFSA coaches code of conduct on many occasions and has been suspended by the FFSA a number of times over the years (lets not forget the time he hit an opposition player at a summer soccer tournament). There was an alleged incident at a Croydon game the other week and the FFSA finally had enough and contacted Croydon. Croydon were also contacted by a number of club member's who filled reports about issues they were highly concerned about.

No this wouldn't have happened with the men's team but the difference is, he begged the committee to run the women's team and said he would do it on his own and without the clubs involvement. It was ran separately to the men's team and unfortunately, when your name has been tarnished that much, its hard to get people who want to help out.

I feel sorry for the girls who just wanted to play football. Hopefully this gets sorted soon and they can either continue playing for Croydon or if not, find a new club and get their passion for the game back.

Bit of a mess for sure.

Passion is great for the short term but process is what gets sustained results. Leaving the whole program in the hands of an individual was always risky. Club should have insisted on greater depth and support.

Hope the team holds together under a new coach and achieve their potential without the distractions.

Some mistakes have been made and all I can say is that the club will do its best to clear up any residual "mess" and is working hard to get things in order.
The coach did put the team together and can be over-passionate at times maybe but maybe he took on too many duties which led to stress and we have to recognize that jobs need to be shared around a bit more.
Onwards and upwards from here, but we just ask for a bit of patience as things like this don't resolve overnight.
