AUFC - W and a Very good idea

Post by billy the kid »

Might be a case of history repeating however, worth a think about.

Why doesn’t the team that wins the league (not finish top) play in the W-League under the AUFC umbrella? Top it up with visa players however, the bulk of the winning team, coach, etc should have the privilege of playing in the W-League.

Why? It will do away with the need to gel as a team with so many players from different backgrounds to become competitive from round 1. (If you don’t win games in rounds 1-4_ you are too far behind the 8 ball. The nucleus is there. There will be a proper down time (de-load) at season’s end before the W League commitments kick in.

It worked with SASI where they provided the bulk of the side (add a couple of ring ins). Coach, etc were the same for the Adelaide Sensations in the NSL and they were competitive from game one.

We’ve been talking about models so why not this one?

It rewards the team that after 23 rounds plus finals plus cup finishes with the title. It will add an even greater incentive for all WNPL teams to work hard on and off field for the elusive W League opportunity. City last year would have been worthy recipients of the W League spot with Paul as coach.
