Lady Reds vs Newcastle Jets

Post by Red-4-Life »

Adelaide United v Newcastle Jets
Saturday 15 December 2012
Burton Park, Adelaide
Local kick-off: 4pm

Referee: Katie Patterson

This contest between the league’s two bottom sides represents an opportunity to kick-start their respective seasons.

In reality the finals are now out of reach, but the opportunity to build some late-season momentum remains in the offing. After shipping 17 goals in their past four outings, coach Dave Edmondson has, understandably, wrung the changes at United.

One new face is Kristy Moore, a vastly experienced attacker who has spent the past four seasons in Norway with Stabaek, featuring in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. The Adelaide-born Moore is coming full circle having represented England before returning home in the twilight of her career.

Newcastle also have new faces in their squad, albeit players at the opposite end of their respective careers. Three youngsters - Mikaela Howell, Jasmin Courtenay and Grace McIntyre - have been called into the squad with the Jets suddenly losing a trio of key players.

Experienced duo Hayley Crawford and Kate Hensman are both nursing injuries, while midfield ace Emily Van Egmond misses the trip to the City of Churches after her red card last week.

Credit where credit is due. Girls were well deserved winners today. Moore proved the difference in attack, and cld have easily scored 4 today with intelligent runs to expose a lethargic defense.

Congrats to Lady Reds - great win!
Yes could have easily netted a couple more.
Swapping Erceg to holding midfield with Wallace worked great.
While Checker did well at CB.
Moore - great runs behind defense supported with good balls.
Newcastle woeful though.
Swapping Day to left CB would have probably helped their defending woes.
Each goal came as i recall came on Newcastles RHS.
Good they didn't
Well done again to the team!

Great to see a player like Moore giving it a real go and the lift it provided to our girls, she was in a class of her own. Sarah really lifted today and had a new spring in her step sure she enjoyed playing next to Moore. Harvey was in fine voice and her selection of when to play out long or short was far superior to past weeks. Overall a great improvement in the course of one week from the whole team.

Credit to Moore, for remaining loyal to SA, she could have gone to any of the other clubs and made their first 11.

 ... we are definitely not playing out from the back in every instance, thats for sure ... keeper now looks for long option as well.

and good to see Wallace back in starting line up.

Who said that forums are always negative

Newcastle were very poor ... Brisbane will be a good measuring stick, but without doubt the arrival of Moore has given us an incisive weapon in attack.

Whether the coaching staff will risk Erceg in midfield again against the Brisbane attack, will be interesting. If they do read this forum, I suggest they throw caution to the wind, and keep Erceg in the midfield. We are not playing for finals and should go for the upset win.

Good result girls.

Now we can see what a boost of confidence can do. Experienced and well credentialed players bring a wealth of experience and composure on the pitch. Need lots more. Not imports.

This is where a lot of the discussion has been centred on. Leadership on the pitch. Been lacking since year two.
