Coaching Moves 2021/2022

Post by billy the kid »

One game left to go. Salisbury to do the job against westies. Simon C has done a great job this season and built upon the team Adrian S built and took into the WNPL only a short time ago. Should take a bow.

The gap between Salisbury and the rest was significant. Only City was probably close in its recent successes. I put Salisbury’s game and team ahead of city’s when it won its recent cups.

Now to coaches and the merry go round in the WNPL world.

Looks like Tony Scalzi has stepped down at metro. Huge loss to metro. Had all the qualities of an exceptional coach. His success in 2020 was the crowning moment for him and his assistants.

My predications
I think Fulham will do what it does best, go back to the future. Out goes the current coach and in comes Max.
City will make a change at the top.

Jamie Dunning let go at City after finishing 3rd.

Paul Pez...sorry, Angelo Paul to take over. First role in women's football.

That makes it 8 coaches in 7 years at City. And people say the A-League is a merry go round!

Really disappointing by City.

Dunning probably overachieved by finishing 3rd considering the overall squad AC had, especially starting the year without Hodgson or McNamara.

8 coaches in 7 years however, look what was achieved in the P Pezos and beyond era. Not a bad record.

Admittedly the coaching turnovers have been a concern however, some have moved on to "promotional" opportunities? I suppose the Max situation was probably the only blemish.

On another note, I wish Tony Scalzi all the very best with whatever lays ahead of him. Too good to be out of the women's game. A rare gem. Knows women's soccer from his own experience with his daughters however, has the benefit of not coaching them. Brenton and Emilio are also gentleman of the game. I also wish them both every success with whatever lays ahead.

WOW ....I see lots of opportunities. Anyone interested in starting/advancing their coaching career (lead or assistant) should think of applying and or approaching a club. It is a rewarding career when you're coaching players whom (most) are not being paid and do it because they love the game. Refreshing change. Yes women's soccer has its challenges but get on board I say.

Thanks for the update.

I'd say that Westies will retain Tracey. And Salisbury Simon.

Some prime spots up for grabs however, any decent coach would look at the list and the club pick which one suits them.

Fulham is doing what it has done over the last 6-7 years and churning through coaches. I suspect the committee will turn to Max. Could do worse. At least he's committed to the cause.

Comets - as with westies, its the meddlesome committee and loud supporters whom are quick to criticise and come up with ideas however, don't put their hands up to coach. Easier from the cheap seats. List needs some work.

Metro is very interesting. A club that has achieved lots in a very short time. Tony and his entourage have left a gaping hole. Hard person and act to follow. The squad is still relying on ageing servants however, the transition to the up and coming needed to occur a few years back. Development ahs been compromised. Fine line between loyalty to the greats and the future. The committee is sound. A new coach in the ilk of Tony is a must.

Vista? Why would you not stay with the coach that got you promoted?

Paul Morris the reserves coach (Metro)would be a great candidate for the seniors role, he has a good track record of winning titles, and as far as I know is liked by the players. and Vista's recruitment drive will not see them in the bottom 2 in their first year imo

Sounds like Vista have sorted out their previous issues. Name a committee member as the coach then no one will complain about their interference.

Agreed. Paul is a very competent and decent bloke and if appointed will excel. Will have challenges with regenerating the list however, the club is solid on this front.

Didn't he get kicked out of Inter due to attitude?

Depends on which angle you look at it....Wasn't a good fit. Or a mutual parting of the ways.

SI have had a few coaches since it came into the wnpl. 4 to date?

Again I wish him well. From what I have (senior players) he's rated as a person and coach.

Not too many coaches that are or have been in the wnpl that have had a backstory as to why they have left or resigned or not offered a coaching job.

not sure on this,(he was kicked out for his attitude) got inter from state league and into the big league only to be given the boot, some I'm coming home coach who lasted about 4 games got the gig, the players must of liked his attitude as most of them followed him from inter to knights then sals utd and metro.

Very good appointment. Max returns. Good fit for Fulham. Nando too. High performing coach.

I reckon they are poised for a top 4 finish

The big problem at city is Pellegrino
Anyone that doesn’t agree with him can’t coach at City

Seems unusual that they didn't just appoint him when they brought him in to help the previous coach when they were on 2 points for majority of season.

Opportunity for Max to settle back in after a diabolical stint at City.
