Rowdy Richmond Tigers fans have flooded Melbourne's Swan Street and set off dozens of flares as after parties continued well into the night.

Grand Final celebrations turned into a rogue street party in the team's home suburb in Melbourne on Saturday night, with police having to move in to control thousands of revved-up Tigers fans.

One fan took his passion to the extreme as he climbed on the roof of a nearby store on Swan Street and set alight a cardboard sign showing Greater Western Sydney player Toby Greene.

Many fans took to the streets to continue celebrating after watching the Tigers' triumphant win over the Giants at the MCG.

But celebrations quickly turned chaotic with police arresting dozens of fans outside pubs and on streets.


Social media videos quickly circulated showing a number of brawls near the Richmond train station, with police forced to intervene.

Nearby on Church Street, hundreds more revellers flooded the streets, throwing and smashing bottles on the ground.

Rumours that some of the Tigers players could make an appearance in Richmond got fans even more excited, with their loud roars audible from one street over.

Nearby pubs and hotels in Richmond were bursting at the seams, with fans on balconies chanting the Tigers song while celebrating.

Just hours earlier, Emma Smith and her family, who describe themselves as "fourth generation" Richmond fans, were watching the match at the Tigers' home ground at Punt Road Oval.

Emma's kids came dressed like their mother in team colours, blending in with the thousands of fans covered in yellow and black.

"It's one big family here, in one big great spot with magnificent Melbourne sunshine," she said.

In Sydney smaller crowds gathered to watch the game unfold. By the end of the brutal third term, numbers slowly dwindled, with many fans not seeing the entire match through.


Travelling up from Sutherland for the game, Caitlin Goman, 25, and partner Adrian Verzin, 24, knew there was no chance of a comeback and no point in staying to watch the now-inevitable loss.

"We gave it a crack, just couldn't kick a goal unfortunately."

Die-hard Giants fans Peter Murphy and five-year-old son Jack stayed until the end to show their pride for the team.

"I think everyone here in Sydney is really proud of them for what they did.

"There's always next year."

Players like Cameron & McGovern have left and Betts, Crouch and Jacobs are leaving because of the toxic environment that was evident after the so called "gold coast trip" that both the club and AFL said nothing to see here...
The club has a history of high profile players leaving, like Davis, Dangerfield, Bok etc etc


Well guess what, players are leaving and many more will continue.

Greenwood's decision is purely financially driven for his future as he looks for long-term security beyond the two years he was offered from the Crows.

Instead, the 27-year-old former basketballer will move to the Suns on a three-year deal with a straight-forward trigger to activate a fourth season through to the end of 2023.

people have known from the start of the year that most of the crows players hate being there, guys like the crouches and greenwood DESPERATELY want a taste of a real footy feeling club, like brisbane has felt in their recent transformation, like Hawthorn was, like Richmond is etc.

i am not some biased Port fan - the exact same is happening there. both SA franchises are nothing entities. going nowhere with no philosophies and no leaders.

As mentioned, Cameron, Mcgovern, Betts, Lever and Keath are just a few high profile players leaving in last 2 years.
Add to that, Greenwood, Jenkins, Big Sauce and maybe both Crouch brothers and the club is losing alot of expereinced players.

so you've obviously not read anything ive written about these players nor what these players have said about why they left.

ive never said that everything is hunky dory at the Crows, but to link the leaving of certain players with a perceived cultural problem is ignorant.

Shortly after Carlton’s Round 19 win over Adelaide, at least one cow told David Teague he’d love the Blues senior coach back at West Lakes.
It was almost certainly an offhand comment, but it spoke to the internal dissatisfaction that has weighed down the club for 18 months.

The fact any player can say those words to an opposition coach says plenty.

The residual effects from a deeply flawed training camp, a misguided fitness program in 2018, consecutive years with no finals and several player departures eventually forced Don Pyke to resign on Thursday, two weeks after he first raised it with chairman Rob Chapman.

The pressure on Pyke increased incrementally throughout 2019. But his downfall can be traced back further than late July when a resurgent Blues humbled the Crows at the MCG.

On the last day of September in 2017 Don Pyke stood alongside Tex Walker and 21 other Crows at the MCG in a famous power stance designed to unite the group and intimidate the opposition during the Australian national anthem.

Favourites for a third club flag, Pyke had just led the Crows to a minor premiership. He had the most potent forward-line in competition at his disposal, a relentless and prolific midfield and a sturdy defence.

His football department had successfully navigated David Noble’s departure to Brisbane. A balanced and respected figure, Noble was replaced by Brett Burton. No team scored as heavily in 2017 as the Crows.

In 15 matches during the 2017 home and away season the Crows booted 100 or more points. Across 2018 and 2019, they achieved the feat a combined nine times.

Richmond’s tidal wave of momentum overwhelmed Adelaide on Grand Final day. But the loss should not have signalled the end of an era. And the club certainly should not have finished 12th and then 11th in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Days after the 48-point defeat, Jake Lever requested a trade to Melbourne, while Charlie Cameron asked to be moved to Brisbane despite having a year to run on his contract.

Adelaide finally agreed on a trade for Bryce Gibbs with Carlton, but allowed Teague to walk to Ikon Park. Eddie Betts, Josh Jenkins and Sam Jacobs were just three of Pyke’s key players who were extremely close to Teague and saddened to see him depart.

But the specifics of trade and assistant coach movement were barely significant compared to the ill-fated training camp, held in Queensland early in 2018.

As revealed by f oxfooty.com.au two months after it took place, cult-like activities turned some players against senior members of the club who commissioned the project.

Walker sent a terse global text to teammates the night the story broke, demanding to know who it was that let the information out. It was supposed to be kept in-house.

Some players pushed through, but others found elements of it incredibly difficult to stomach and highly intrusive. It impacted families of key players — such as Betts — and forced assistants to reconsider their future, such as Josh Francou, who was a vocal critic of the camp internally and left mid-contract to join Gold Coast at the end of that season.

But even more harmful than the camp in isolation was the club’s refusal to concede it did anything untoward, insensitive or inappropriate. They simply refused to acknowledge they made a mistake. Players were thoroughly dissatisfied. Their feedback was not being heard. Their complaints were falling on deaf ears.

On June 23 — three months after the story broke — Adelaide finally severed ties with the organisation that ran the camp.

“Some sessions didn’t hit the mark and didn’t resonate with the players,” Pyke finally conceded sitting alongside a stumbling Brett Burton.

The damage was done. Trust was lost among a section of the playing group. Tex Walker continued to lead admirably, but Burton and Pyke — who both have strong sports science backgrounds (Pyke’s father helped rebuild Dennis Lillee’s troublesome back) — were too late to admit error.

The problems escalated as a hamstring epidemic wore on. Not learning from previous mistakes, the club refused to be transparent around soft tissue problems relating to Steve Saunders and his strength and conditioning program. This caused more fractions.

There was also tension within the playing group. Some members of the group were accused of leaking information by teammates, which created a deep divide.

The 2019 season could not come quickly enough. Mitch McGovern was the only significant loss from 2018, joining Teague at Carlton. There was positivity and hope among Crows fans.

Losing seven of the last nine matches saw the Crows drop from a game outside the top four to two games outside the top eight by season’s end.

In this period, rival clubs noted how significantly Adelaide’s playing style shifted from a quick, direct approach to a more methodical, slow system. The changes did not work.

Opposition recruiters have also recognised how deep the cultural problems have become, leading to an influx of phone calls designed to lure contracted Crows out of West Lakes.

Foxfooty.com.au has spoken to multiple sources in the hours since Pyke resigned. Not one referred to the 50-year-old as a bad bloke or an ordinary character. On the contrary, every single person said the ex-West Coast assistant is a reasonable, highly intelligent man. He had not lost the playing group, and he remained aligned — perhaps too much so — with Burton and senior assistant Scott Camporeale.

If anything, he was too loyal to the same players. From 2016 to 2019, the Crows had fewer list changes (35) than any other club. In one sense this illustrated stability. But there was also an element of blind faith associated with the way Pyke backed his players to the hilt.

Ultimately Pyke had too many broken pieces to reconfigure after the training camp debacle. He’s a wealthy man courtesy of business interests outside the game. He does not need football and deep down he would surely know the all-encompassing review will uncover far greater problems than his himself when it’s completed.

This was a resignation that had to come, but it’s likely just the tip of the iceberg.

Tellingly, Pyke sat fifth for win percentage among active coaches. The other four (Chris Scott, Adam Simpson, John Longmire and Alastair Clarkson), are all premiership coaches. His pure record was sound.

After climbing to the tip of mountain in 2017, he oversaw a club that spectacularly tumbled back down with bumps and bruises to show for it across the next two seasons.

The fall was not entirely his fault, but as the senior coach, his role in it was inescapable.
