I'm saying you would be entitled to play for Australia if you were entitled to a passport at birth. If your parents were citizens or permanent residents before you were born then you would have been entitled to it.Mr Red wrote:So your saying I'm Australian if I was able to get Aust passport when I was born - would this occur if my parents had gained Australian citizenship prior to me being born?

I don't know fully know her blood line, with her surname she would be English I imagine. However, at birth, she was only entitled to an Australian passport as were her parents and grand parent. So she's Australian.Bomber wrote:So, your ex is Australian through blood and passport entitlement?
Re: Australia picking Englishmen
They would have been permanent residents so I would automatically become an Australian citizen, luck me hey - I might have been an English back packer all this time.God is an Englishman wrote:I'm saying you would be entitled to play for Australia if you were entitled to a passport at birth. Bloodline is completely relevant, you get your nationality from your parentsBomber wrote:So bloodline is irreleventGod is an Englishman wrote:I don't know fully know her blood line, with her surname she would be English I imagine. Re: Australia picking Englishmen
Splendid, so if two "Chinese" people from different families (ie each their parents were Chinese) are born in Australia, grow up, marry and have kids, then their kids are Australian in bloodline as their parents were born here. Sound right? Or is there a rule you can only go back so many generations?

Re: Australia picking Englishmen
Britain for example has a "grandparentage" rule.Bomber wrote:Splendid, so if two "Chinese" people from different families (ie each their parents were Chinese) are born in Australia, grow up, marry and have kids, then their kids are Australian in bloodline as their parents were born here. Those kids would be entitled to a Chinese passport at birth (if their system is the same) so they'd be Chinese but presuming their parents were entitled to the passports at birth then it would be pretty hard to deny that they're also australian.

We are young and free. Best to be considered Australian wherever one can I suppose, especially if you can add some European "heritage" to it.

Re: Australia picking Englishmen
By the definition below my Nationality is Australian seeing I was born in Australia.God is an Englishman wrote:Class yourself however you want, you would also be English at birth and entitled to a British passport and perfectly entitled to represent England in any sport. My son was born in Australia to an English father, he has a British passport and nothing I would like more than to see him wearing the 3 Lions.Mr Red wrote:Both my parents are English and I was born in Australia - I don't class myself as English - I class myself as Australian with English heritage.
Q:
What is the meaning of "nationality?"
A:
QUICK ANSWER
A person's nationality refers to the country, or nation, where he is from. Nationality can refer to the person's birth nation or to another nation in which he has citizenship
refer below - I could have got a British passport if I registered as British overseas citizen after I turned 3 which I didnt. So I assume your son at birth wouldnt have been British. He would become a British citizen when he was registered( >3 Years old) and the he would be able to apply for a British passport then but not when he was born.
So I assume your son has now got dual nationality British and Australian.
Stateless people
You may be able to register as a British overseas citizen if you’re stateless (not recognised by any country as having a nationality) and both of these apply:
you were born in the UK or an overseas territory
one of your parents is a British overseas citizen
You may also be able to register if you’re stateless and all of these apply:
you were born outside the UK and qualifying territories
one of your parents is a British overseas citizen
you’ve lived in the UK or an overseas territory for 3 years or more
You have to fill in different forms depending on whether you were:
born before 1 January 1983 - read the guidance and fill in Form S1
born on or after 1 January 1983 - read the guidance and fill in Form S2

Re: Australia picking Englishmen
My son had a British passport from about 4 weeks old. We went back to England when he was 2 months old and he entered England on his British passport.
You also could have got that passport at the same age. The regulations you have below are for British Overseas Citizens, I am a British citizen, not a British Overseas Citizen.

So did he have to register to be a British Citizen first as part of the process so he could get a British passport?

That article refers to Darren Pattinson as a "foreigner" and Rankin as an Irishman.

4 of today's 11 were born overseas. Surely that's not allowed judging by Australia's recent complaints against other nations (but only when they have been beaten by those other nations.... )
