Whilst certainly a possibility, it's far from over yet. Australia are really only 1 wicket down on a pitch that has only produced 31 wickets in 4 days. If Australia dig in and with Smith (I'd say the 3rd best batsmen in the world) still there, they're a chance to hold on to the draw.

Smith is the Best test batsmen according to the ICC.

So rankings are the only thing we use now?

And we only use the rankings from one form of the game?

Do we take into account that the person I'd have at number one hasn't played a test match for 3 months?

Who's your top 5 best batsmen currently playing (in order)?
Mine would be:
1. Kohli (despite his performance this series)
2. Smith
3. De villiers
4. Root
5. Williamson

Kholi is certainly ranked no 1 when it comes to bell ends.

Cant argue Smith being the best current batsman, seeing that he makes runs on any type of wicket, against all opposition in all forms of the game. Lets not forget his average, which I noticed first innings alone is a crazy 91 odd! Plus throw in Sir Garfield Sobers appraisal - is good enough for me!

Typical aussie, who is daylight - some south Australian that no one's ever heard of who isn't getting picked because he's not from NSW?

Perhaps you'd like to look in the mirror? Root no 1?

Well Root made it into the 2016 Team of the Year and Smith didn't.

Root also scored more runs than anyone else in 2016.

So you pick and choose past sources? I'll chose a current one, namely ICC rankings.

And this is exactly where those rankings fall over

Got to love the aussie media.

Kohli grabbing his shoulder when Warner got out was rude and arrogant. Maxwell grabbing his shoulder when fielding is good natured banter.

Agree.

Funny how the Aussies don't like Kohli when he carries on like an Australian cricketer.

And Kholi coming out on to balcony to vigorously applaud a DRS decision Aussies got wrong wasn't "rude and arrogant"?

And I couldn't care less about the Aussie media, just as the British Press are a waste of space.

I don't think anyone said it wasn't. I fail to see what that has to do with it though.

Shows a pattern of behaviour. BUT, I actually like it in a way as it spices up the game a bit and tests every player's nerve, something many other countries try and shy away from.

A pattern?

For me, it's the only thing he's done wrong. Aside from his batting anyway.

I stand corrected, I honestly though India would roll over the Aussies, but Marsh ( I'm still in shock) and Handscombe did a fantastic job frustrating the indian bowlers on day 5.

The last test match is poised to be a cracker, India will have all the pressure considering many "experts" had them to win 4-0.

As Kohli, well he is A-grade spoilt little brat. Faked... I mean Had a sore shoulder and did not enter the pitch whilst his team mates were doing all the hard work of fielding only to come out and bat and still fail to score a decent total. Aussies have got to him mentally, that's a win for them.

Sharma is another sook. when he doesn't get his way he resorts to pulling silly faces and moaning like a little child.
I guess that what you get when you arrogant stuck up twats.

I hope the Aussies win the last test match, but knowing India - they will try to prepare another pitch the favour them, just like in the 3rd test, only this time it backfired for them. Karma!

Smith still no1 in test batting ranking, followed by Williamson, Root and then Kohli with Warner 5th!

Luckily this guide is better than a particular 1 eyed (loyal when it suits him) supporter saying otherwise.

Would that be the pitch that was apparently a mine field and a dust bowl etc. The one that had over 1,200 runs scored on it and only 25 wickets. Looks like the aussies even whinged about something that wasn't even there in that one.

Of course they will prepare a pitch that favours them, it's called home advantage.

The fact that Warner is ranked 5th shows how those rankings can't be properly relied upon.
He's not even the 2nd best batsman playing for Australia - he's just a flat track bully.

I'm not going to argue about Root v Smith v Kohli as everyone's opinion is different but it's always a good measure when they come up against one another.
I haven't forgotten that Joe Root hasn't played for 3 months - but i would consider that Kohli and Smith batting as well as they have since becoming captains probably puts them just ahead.
this can certainly change once Root has captained a few series for England.

In that case, smith is useless. He made hardly any runs and shouldered arms in his last innings.
