Re: Aus v India - test series
Doctoring isn't about necessarily benefitting any particular team and you know it.Bomber wrote:^
So how does that benefit Australia over touring teams then?
How did the recent test in india benefit india?

Re: Aus v India - test series
The wicket clearly suited them, but they didn't rate our spinners, so it back-fired on this occasion. Doesn't happen a lot, as even your lot recently found out.God is an Englishman wrote:Doctoring isn't about necessarily benefitting any particular team and you know it.Bomber wrote:^

And doctoring IS about benefitting one team, or at least trying to get a result that the home team might have to gamble on, otherwise why use the term "doctoring"?

Previously, you had said it was about preparing a not normal wicket. Now you're changing it because you realised I was right.Bomber wrote:The wicket clearly suited them, but they didn't rate our spinners, so it back-fired on this occasion. Bollocks. In India they always have had dustbowls. Not so much doctoring, as its what you'd expect.
Once in England, you'd expect seaming wickets, but sometimes that doesn't suit, so..........what does curator do then? You know the answer to that.
Adelaide Oval has drop in pitches nowadays and its clear to all and sundry that they wanted pink ball success, so they left a millimetre of extra grass on it. One day you might understand by doing that, it doesn't really favour the Aussies all that much, it was more about the pink ball surviving the test and getting the crowds in. $$$$

So they didn't prepare a normal pitch - you called that doctoring beforeBomber wrote:Bollocks. In India they always have had dustbowls. Not so much doctoring, as its what you'd expect.

If its to favour the home side specifically or produce a result that the home side must gamble on, then its doctoring.God is an Englishman wrote:So they didn't prepare a normal pitch - you called that doctoring beforeBomber wrote:Bollocks. I'm not a dictionary - I refer to it occasionally, but didn't write the thing.God is an Englishman wrote:so, why did you change the definition then?
Your stance as I see it - doctoring if any change to normal wicket/pitch
Mine - doctoring if the above AND favours home team

Re: Aus v India - test series
To me, every single pitch ever played test cricket on is "doctored". If it wasn't doctored then it wouldn't be rolled or mowed. I also say it's home advantage and not a big deal.Bomber wrote:I'm not a dictionary - I refer to it occasionally, but didn't write the thing.God is an Englishman wrote:so, why did you change the definition then?

We're not playing in a backyard or some meadow so yes, you'll have a mowed and rolled pitch. Bit like any sporting arena, there are minimum standards - nothing to do with "doctoring".

If you mow it and roll it - you have doctored.1.change the content or appearance of (a document or picture) in order to deceive; falsify

Please see definition of 'Doctored". All India did was mowed and rolled it, all England did was mowed and rolled it, all Australia did was mowed and rolled it.MegaBonus wrote:no....you have prepared it....If you mow it and roll it - you have doctored.

Tell that to the curators. You make it sound like Bob next door could do the same job with his Victa ride-on.

Better have a conversation with the dictionary people. I don't know about Bob next door, but John next door used to do it. Not sure on the brand though.Bomber wrote:

Just chatted with the dictionary people and they gave me the all clear and said that doctoring when talking cricket terms when taken in its proper context means something along the lines I suggested. Guess you'll have to chat to them about it now if you're not satisfied

End of the day they're just caretakers anyway.
Everyone knows Blackadder and Baldrick wrote the original English dictionary.

Actual Samuel Johnson wrote it but may I add my extreme confibularities for knowing that.Bomber wrote:Given my call, they said they would doing it next edition.God is an Englishman wrote:Did they say when they would be updating the dictionary?Bomber wrote:Just chatted with the dictionary people and they gave me the all clear and said that doctoring when talking cricket terms when taken in its proper context means something along the lines I suggested. He cant get wickets, and cant bat... great "allrounder"
The ONLY reason he and his brother are in the test squad is that they are Geoff Marsh's sons!
