Well done to James Winslow, yes I am slightly biased after meeting him when he was Redson's team mate, but a great story and a well deserved award.

British Racing Driver James Winslow received the very prestige’s Royal Humane Bronze Award on Wednesday 16th May from HRH Princess Alexandra in London’s Royal Haberdashers Hall.

Formula 3 Champion Winslow attended the Royal Humane Society Annual awards receiving one of only 9 awards handed out this year. The Society began in 1774 and rewards act’s of life saving endeavours around the world.

Her Majesty the Queen is patron of the Royal Humane Society with President of the Society being HRH Princess Alexandra who has been involved with this great organisation since1974.

Chairman Julian Spicer Esq OBE commented on why James had been chosen to receive the award “For having on the 24th September 2006, at great personal risk, courageously saved the life of a fellow racing driver, trapped in his burning car following a collision during a race at Sentul racing circuit, Indonesia”

Winslow made the headlines for his prompt actions in an Asian Formula 3 event Indonesian race in September. He was involved in an accident with 23 year old Moreno Soeprapto whose car ran into the back of Winslow, after barrel rolling it landed upside down against a barrier trapping it’s driver.

Winslow rushed to his aid and continued trying to free him even when the car caught fire, the drivers escaped as the car erupted into a fireball, both drivers escaped injury albeit only just, as there seriously singed racing suit testified.

After helping out Soeprapto, Winslow managed to get his car back on track for the restart. The team repaired the car in time for James to retake pole position he then went on to win the race.

Talking after the ceremony Winslow said “It’s been an incredible experience, meeting Princess Alexandra, getting the award and hearing everyone one else’s incredible stories”

“I’m just so glad Moreno wasn’t hurt and it’s all turned out well ”added Winslow

Winslow’s Royal Humane Award is the fourth award he has received for the incident in Indonesia, Others include the Gregor Grant Award at the Autosport Awards, Innes Ireland Award from the BRDC and a Motorsport News Award from Professor Sid Watkins
