alan border medal

Post by God is an Englishman »

Mitchell Johnson

Thought haddin was better in the series, thought Harris was a better bowler and he only played half the games.

Looks like cricket Australia can jump on the media bandwagon just as easily.

I thought he was one of the best allrounders in the series :)

Was surprised he won it. Not fussed with this award anyway.

I think you know the answer to that GIAE, as we all do, it is a national trait that Australians only support their teams when they are winning.

I'm actually surprised Channel 7 is still televising the tennis.

I was surprised MItchell Johnson won - it makes a bit of a mockery of the award that he must have gathered so many votes withing 5 tests and a few one dayers that he won. I'm sure he is having a purple patch and whilst there is no doubt he has played well I'm still not convinced he will be proven to be a 'great' as his success is based on confidence not necessarily technique. It will be interesting to see how he goes against a much more confident South African batting line up who will have a more attacking and positive mentality. When more of his bad balls get put to the fence will prove the test of his mentality and his technique, we could possibly be talking about a very different bowler if he gets carted in the first couple of tests. I personally wish him well he seized his opportunity but the threat with this that rise quickly is that they fall just as quickly.

Johnson played 5 Tests and 19 ODI (24 games) which he featured heavily in
Clarke played 14 Tests and 12 ODI (26 games) was not at his best throughout
Not sure how things are weighted but no reason why Johnson didn't deserve the accolades.

Surely they would be weighted accordingly. A test last 4.5 times longer than a ODI so should gain that many more points.

How did Clarke rate in the other 9 Test games...18 innings...2 x 100s (1 x 150) , 2 x 50's, 14 x <32 ( including 2 ducks)....not many game changeing innings.
