His theme was about GWS needing to become competitive, needs to get Franklin into it's team in a hurry, blah blah etc.

But how's this for a breathtaking statement by Mr Russell?

"The AFL is having a magnificent year...fantastic see-sawing games..etc.."

Did he miss the salary cap rorts/suspensions, the drug controversy, the tanking 'non-fine', the racist thing and the score blowouts (Demons done by 95 points, Giants by 94, Saints by 68 and even Brissy by 49 points and Suns by 52..)? It looks like all sides will be treating the Giants games as extra resting 'byes' - witness Judd being 'injured' for Visy Carton's game against GWS. Add the dysfunctional Demons to the list of extra 'byes' too.

too many teams in the afl....demetriou and his cohorts getting greedy!

afl should have only 14 teams, with home and away. thats if they ever want to make the game to get serious!

this curent format is an absolute joke, with teams in Vic like bombers, pies, blues, hawks only travelling interstate about 5-6 times a year!
You whinge about Vic teams travelling interstate only 5 or 6 times a year? Where would you like teams from Melbourne play when they play each other?
To me, they need 2 divisions and have relegation - wont be any tanking if that happens (in the top div at least). Cant see it happening in my life time though.

So disciplined, fit and have so much talent. Hard to believe that hannebery is on 22. Collected 42 disposals twice in his career so far. They are an unbelievable team.

They don't have an Ablett, Judd, Swan, Pendlebury or Franklin...they just have a brilliant squad all round. I have never seen Sydney rely on just one player to carry their midfield or score all their goals. They are all about team work and that's what makes them the great team they are. They aren't a team of champion players, they are a champion team.

agreed.....

other than the 'Bloods Culture' the other defining influence on their club psyche has been Ray McLean...Paul Roos (amongst many other coaches/clubs) was a big disciple of his 'leadership and team performance' philosophies...

A table suggest a more consistent side, not one who just had a good day.
Furthermore this year's table has nothing to do with last year.

Collingwood $1.01, Demonettes $17.00. Looks like the AFL's communist equalisation salary cap policy is really working.

Adelaide Crows hammered the Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne beat the Brisbane Lions quite comfortably on that day.

Sydney have been a consistent team (much like CCM) for well over a decade. They should have probably dropped off but they have managed to remain in there and only miss the finals once. Don't deny that they're consistent. Maybe a bit upset from the murder on Saturday???

Was watching foxsport afl preview at the local pub recently ( dont have foxtel ) and the "rolling news" they have at bottom of the screen, was saying that 23 afl players are now on 2 strikes - I wonder how many are from the same club ?

Looks like Buckley is now turning to Ray McLean (Leading Teams) to help change the larrikin culture at Collingwood...will it cost them a player or 2????

Well in 1999 they missed the finals altogether after winning the 98 flag. And Port after making the 07 GF havent made finals since...but we all know that game impacted the club quite severely
