Any tennis fans out there ? Interesting while watching the NSW Open, commentators mentioned how the 30 second rule has been re introduced to all tennis matches, to stop players really dragging it out between each point, some of the players are a bit confused.
As I understood it, both players have 30 secs, after the last point has ended, to play the next point. If the server takes longer then 30 secs to serve the next ball, their next serve they only get one serve instead of the two.
Apparently some of the players are confused - eg what if the server wins the game / set / match, does the penalty carry over to their next service game ?
What if the server is ready but the receiver is not, what penalty do they get ?
Be interesting to see how much it is enforced on the grumpy players, especially the popular big name ones. Also interesting to see it was introduced after it was announced Nadal wasnt coming, probably the worst offender when it comes to taking a long time in between points-great champion, frustrating to watch.
Never marry a tennis player, luv means nothing.

Re: Tennis
Rule changes I'd like to see, not for every tournament, but every now and then:
Do away with faults (wanna attempt the big serve, do it at greater risk, thus meaning less importance on server having advantage)
Do away with lets (at service) - if ball still lands in, well done, regardless of if receiver cant get to it.
Have some open draws - eg, disregard seedings (like the FA Cup) - you could have blockbuster matches such as Djokovic v Federer in the first round and meanwhile some upcoming new start could get a dream draw and make a few quid and make a name for himself.
Women to get equal pay only if they play best of five sets.

Agree. Funny if a let then bounces out it gets called a faultBomber wrote:Do away with lets (at service) - if ball still lands in, well done, regardless of if receiver cant get to it.

Re: Tennis
Poor Baghdatis has copped a time violation twice in this tournament, clearly umpire had no idea what he was doing.
In another match, Dologopolov was receiving, decided to go and change his racquet just before the other guy is about to serve. When the D man is ready again the server takes 2 breathes to regroup as you do, and he is penalised for taking too long to serve...go figure ?

Re: Tennis
Despite her obvious plusses, am glad Sharapova got beat. Her grunting should be reserved solely for the sack. I know others do it, but not like her and not so obvious......she doesnt do it in poractice either I believe?
PS - Djokovic to walk away with the real title (how the women get paid equally in this circumstance is beyond belief)

completely agree!
Re: Tennis
Read an interesting article the other day saying that some of the men want to play 3 sets, rather than 5, so they get paid the same as the women.Bomber wrote:PS - Djokovic to walk away with the real title (how the women get paid equally in this circumstance is beyond belief)
Not going to happen while the current top 4 are around (as they're the best 5-setters out there), though...
Re: Tennis
we've had it good for long enough. let the women enjoy some of the discrimination in their favour for a change.
