Law 4 Players Equipment Query

Post by robs2107 »

I watched a good referee yesterday, but one thing puzzled me. He insisted that one player remove his flesh coloured skins which were showing about 2-3cms below his shorts when he leaped, less in general play. However the referee allowed a player to wear taped up ear rings (and it was brought to the referees attention).

The FFSA issued a memo earlier this year specifically reminding referees about law four. I can't understand why the referee chose to ignore the safety part of the law and memo but enforce the cosmetic part. Any ideas?

I have included some links so you can judge yourself.

Ernie Merrick: Of course I am happy when my team scores a goal, it's just that sometimes I forget to tell my face. (On why Ernie doesn't smile on the sideline.)

It is not uncommon for players to experience bleeding when they remove their nice new piercing jewellery.
The photo LOOKS like there isn't any jewellery - just tape.
It's tough to call without feeling it, or a closer inspection.

Excellent work, I fell for trusting a partisan supporter who claimed to have seen the ear rings up close. Another more from the front tends to back your supposition, there appears to be nothing under the tape.
