Re: Socceroos World Cup Campaign
Said it before but don't get too excited about qualifying with this squad. Even Klopp or Guardiola would struggle with a team made up largely from "lesser leagues".
In fact not qualifying may be a blessing in long term so some of these "experts" running the game here can get a clip in the ear and re-think strategies moving forward.
We are clearly going backwards, not forwards.

maybe a case of not developing as much/as quick as other countries

Re: Socceroos World Cup Campaign
First steps in the 'renewal' should be to re-open the the National Institute of Football in Canberra; link it to the State bodies to develop our young players; involve the state bodies with the NPL and A-League squads; appoint new National and state coaching systems and bring in expertise from SUCCESSFUL countries that have developed their Youth systems to provide a clear nationwide talent identification system.
In the short term, sack the current board of the FA, or whatever it calls itself these days, and appoint some former National Team Player Identities, who have played overseas, along with some former academics involved in areas such as Sports Science and Developing Football Coaching programs, bring in an Australian Marketing expert who knows the game and how to get 'Big Money' people to invest in our game.
This needs to be started NOW, not in three or four years time - strike while the Iron is hot!

Not possible.
We've had the national curriculum PowerPoint presentation for over 12 years now. Just waiting on the first batch of kids that grew up with the curriculum from the start.
Plus we got rid of ethnic teams from the ALeague
Australia is a powder keg of footballing talent just waiting to explode!

I couldn't do any worse than those in charge at the moment - they are ten years behind the rest of our Asian group opponents in every way, shape or form.Arena Oaxaca wrote: ↑Tue Mar 29, 2022 9:35 pmOld Master may as well be running FA....lolOld Master wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 11:38 am First steps in the 'renewal' should be to re-open the the National Institute of Football in Canberra; link it to the State bodies to develop our young players; involve the state bodies with the NPL and A-League squads; appoint new National and state coaching systems and bring in expertise from SUCCESSFUL countries that have developed their Youth systems to provide a clear nationwide talent identification system.

Next thing they'll go back to the days when we played 2 at the back, 3 in the middle and 5 up front.

How about highlighting the biggest hurdle Australian Football (Soccer) faces .Old Master wrote: ↑Fri Mar 25, 2022 11:38 am First steps in the 'renewal' should be to re-open the the National Institute of Football in Canberra; link it to the State bodies to develop our young players; involve the state bodies with the NPL and A-League squads; appoint new National and state coaching systems and bring in expertise from SUCCESSFUL countries that have developed their Youth systems to provide a clear nationwide talent identification system.

- How many potential players are lost to other codes ( AFL, Rugby Union & League)
- What if Football (Soccer) was the dominate winter sport in the country and didnt have competition from AFL
- How many more players would Football(Soccer) have access to and the amount of indigenous players that would turn out to be quality footballers.

Not too much to get excited about from this game as the team never really looked as if they were aware of what they were supposed to be doing, IMO.

Re: Socceroos World Cup Campaign
STFU, you sarcastic probable EPL/Euro snob. A Socceroo game could be in a Stadium one city block away from you in Straya and you would be out there training for some backyard amateur team.
FYI while you were snoring this morning Straya beat UAE 2-1.
It was a laboured performance. The newbie Atkinson at right back was killed by UAE’s lightning fast winger, but Straya hung in there.
Mooy lasted the whole 90 minutes but will need a defensive midfielder behind him to help against Peru next Tuesday morning 14/6 @ 3.30am.
I wish Adelaide boy Craig Goodwin had scored THAT volley from 4 metres to keep his place. He relies on his good crosses but should attack going to the line for cutbacks like Boyle did from the other wing..
In the end the main thing is Straya got there in the end to the last step against Peru in the intercontinental playoff. That’s all that matters.
