The law states it has to be a deliberate handball, I don't think it was deliberate. Was the hand in an unnatural position? I wouldn't say so either, he was jumping in and ball has bounced up (was it off his foot?) and hit his arm. Not deliberate as far as I can see.MegaBonus wrote:wow.....and you're a refGod is an Englishman
A number of refs I have spoken to have said that they thought the penalty was harsh but can see why it was given. Sometimes they get given, sometimes they don't. For me it was clearly ball to hand.
ball to hand as you put it isn't an absolute reason not to give a penalty....

Re: Honduras v. Australia
I thought it hit his had first, but would have to see it again. the jurman one was a classic roll your foot on top of the ball tackle, means yes you touch the ball first but ensures your studs are shin high. thought it was a clear free kick for the first goal and would have been given on the half way line without too many complaints. not sure what he was doing with the free kick though, think the keeper was going to save it comfortably when he had 3/4 of the goal to aim for in the other corner. got very lucky there.

I agree 100%. Maradona said the same that the English press were unfair on him for a ball to hand a few years back.God is an Englishman wrote:The law states it has to be a deliberate handball, I don't think it was deliberate. Over 90 minutes the decisions even themselves out and IMO both penalties were obvious penaltiespredrag wrote:I thought the ref was against socceroos the first half,i am amazed Englishman has no comments for Honduran players simulating/going down easy.Second half much better by then ref had enough of their Barossa Pearl!

I thought both team were bad for it, Honduras did seem to be the worst though.predrag wrote:I thought the ref was against socceroos the first half,i am amazed Englishman has no comments for Honduran players simulating/going down easy.Second half much better by then ref had enough of their Barossa Pearl!

To be fair, if you calibrate it properly it should be right all the time.Wayne Kerr wrote:God is an Englishman wrote:I agree with the second part of that statementWayne Kerr wrote:Australia deserved to qualify, better side over both legs!

Nervous about tonight. Wondering if instead of spending all that money on the plane, we should have just bribed FIFA as tradition dictates. #AUSvHON

Oh that's right, your England, you think your going to win it, Australia have about as much chance as Iceland had
Seriously I hope Australia get England for the reasons above

No, I don't think England will win it but I also think australia will not win a game at the tournament seeing as they're arguably the worst team there.Knight15 wrote:God is an Englishman wrote:NICE TRY!!Knight15 wrote:Very comfortable win in the end, crowd was good, hope we get England, massive hype and very winnable game

I would be more than happy to get australia in the draw. In fact, when I picked my dream draw it included them.
Iceland were a decent team who had beaten some good sides to get there. What decent sides have you beaten. You're there because of geography, not talent.
Re: Honduras v. Australia
After the last friendly against Germany,England did well.So they have a chance to prove themselves on the day. With that OK Aussies didn't rule the turf against Honduras, but we still had some promising games at last years confederations cup.Teams like Serbia might struggle because they just sacked the coach that got them through qualifying+ first choice replacement didn't want the job.Chances like this we have to take.Saudi Arabia/Morocco/Panama/Egypt/Senegal/Tunisia-they are all not that great and yes like us they can totally stuff up in big tournaments!
