Some discussion about the Euros going to 32 teams and worrying whether it would dilute quality too much.
Meanwhile there are 32 countries in UEFA ranked higher than the AFC champions.

Are you surprised.Grosso wrote:Some discussion about the Euros going to 32 teams and worrying whether it would dilute quality too much.

And some imbeciles were predicting a thrashing against Greece!

I agree with that.Grosso wrote:even Cyprus would be too good for the current Socceroos in a serious match
Cyprus has some seriously good talent. It's soccer mad.
I do not believe the Socceroos can beat Cyprus.

I'm not surprised you think that. Everyone (else) wants to beat Australia so badly. It makes them feel so good as you have pointed out.Aikhme wrote:That was a great day.

I was disappointed when Australians were making fun of Greece when they got beat by Faroe Islands and saying they will thrash them.
I was happy when Greece beat Australia. It was poetic justice.

Faroe Islands twice - c'mon, that's like Australia losing twice to Solomon islands. Surely you'd expect some stick!Aikhme wrote:Sometimes, a good measure of humility does Australia some good.Bomber wrote:I'm not surprised you think that. So the 1-0 result for Australia in game 1??
You really need medication

But let's be realistic about it too.
The players did a job on the coach which they weren't happy with.
If they played today, I think the result would be very different.

Jet lagged and Australia were bloody lucky to score in the last seconds.Wayne Kerr wrote:

Plus, the Greek Team was in a State of Shock. I don't think they were expecting high intensity. Socceroos tried to play like they were in a World Cup, Greek Players were being injured and they got angry and handed some Socceroo muscat on a platter in game 2.

But elsewhere you said they were professionals.Aikhme wrote:The players did a job on the coach which they weren't happy with.
Leicester City players had no problems with him.
You could have been champions
Time for some righteous indignation

If the players did a job on the coach , (which I doubt), then isn't that match fixing?Stitch This wrote:But elsewhere you said they were professionals.Aikhme wrote:The players did a job on the coach which they weren't happy with.

In Europe, its about the money not the glory. Players feathering their nests in Spain, Italy, England and Portugal and not only.
When the players aren't paid to represent Greece, then they don't play 100% and get injured and lose millions at a club level.
If they don't like the coach, they get rid of him. Greece is not the odd one out here.

If you're a Benfica player earning $3 mill per season, will you risk your body (asset) and play for the National Team and lose a cabernet load of money?ozzie owl wrote:If the players did a job on the coach , (which I doubt), then isn't that match fixing?Stitch This wrote:But elsewhere you said they were professionals.Aikhme wrote:The players did a job on the coach which they weren't happy with.

These players are very lucky to be able to set themselves up for the rest of their lives, and they only got 10 or so years to do it.
Money always rules the roost and the Barossa Pearl walks. Now that the Greek FA is recovering and re-instating player payments, they will be a lot more competitive.
