How can players from non-A League clubs be selected over SA's A-League Youth players. :?: :?: :?:

Why are they selecting players from Sutherland sharks and not A league Youth Teams?

If they were of as high a standard they would be playing for A league clubs.

How will they be able to compete against full-time professional players for a start?

Well pretty sad reading result-wise so far.

Five Nations Series 3 May 2015 New Zealand 2–3 Australia Auckland, New Zealand
Five Nations Series 7 May 2015 Qatar 4–1 Australia Auckland, New Zealand
Five Nations Series 10 May 2015 Panama 6–1 Australia Hamilton, New Zealand

Last game
Five Nations Series 13 May 2015 Ghana v Australia Hamilton, New Zealand

Even sadder is Okon's comments after the Qatar game.
Australia U-20 coach Paul Okon said he was satisfied with the performance of his team against a side he believes could make a big impact at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

Young Socceroos - U20s 1-6 Panama  :?

FFA doesn't have much to say about this, the article is about 4 lines.

Is this the future of our national team ?

That's like saying Steve Bull shouldn't have played for England because he wasn't in the top flight.

Considering the squad chosen I wouldn't read too much into the results. Hopefully this is a bit of a wake up call to FFA that they can't just pick a basically East Coast select side.

BTW the side lost their last game Wednesday to Ghana 2-0.

I would hope an east coast select side wouldn't get thrashed by Qatar and Panama either.

Surely Okon is a little worried about his job?
Imagine going back to your boss and explaining how you lost 6-1 to Panama!

 wow much improved squad and much improved result.

Young Socceroos went down 2-1 to USA.

Starting XI: Holmes (Gk), Galloway (c), Rose, Youlley, Borrello, Sotirto, Mabil, Mauk, Deng, Woodcock, Aspropotamitis

Mauk was the scorer.

U20's let a two goal lead slip against Mexico and the game ended 2-2.

They play Brazil on the 27th.

A 10-man Young Socceroos proved capable of competing with the world's best emerging talent, narrowly going down 1-0 to Brazil's U20 side in Wollongong on Wednesday night.

Much improved results against side that should do well in the U20 WC. Makes you wonder why Australia aren't there.
Young Socceroos starting XI: Glover(gk)(Holmes), Alessi, Burgess, Rose(Mauk), Youlley(Arzani), Blackwood(Sotirio), De Silva, Borrello, Kuzmanovski (Naumoff), Deng, Woodcock(Gersbach)

Because you still need to win games to qualify for tournaments.

Oh yeah I forgot that was important.

I meant we seem to match it well enough with Brazil and Mexico (who have one of the best youth NT set ups in the world ATM.) Surely that should mean we can beat sides in our own backyard. I mean Myanmar, North Korea, Qatar and Uzbekistan made the WC ahead of us.

I know what you mean, I think it's an attitude issue.

When the game is on the line, a lot of the youngsters coming through don't seem to have the strength of character to get the result.

I haven't see very many youth NT games but 3-4 years ago I would certainly agree with that we were all possession and build up but bugger all cutting edge. The results continue to be mixed so I'd say you're probably right.

Exclusive: Paul Okon is taking a different approach to preparing for a key event next month, as he seeks to make up for recent disappointments

Yeah lets just pull out of tournaments willy nilly and see how that effects our place in Asia.

The lads lost 3-0 to Japan overnight but still qualify for the U19 Championships as one of the best 2nd placed teams.

Australia has kicked on the AFF U19 Championships well with two win from two so far.
Hopefully the new coach will bring a change in fortune and outlook.
