Socceroos Friendlies
So after playing Germany we'll play Zambia in London. The second game is unconfirmed at this stage.

Brazil, Argentina and many other nations play home games in Europe to save their players having to travel too much on the limited time the international weekends offer.astonvilla91 wrote:Good to see a home match played in London before Adelaide.

It would be good to have more games at home here as well. Even if it was an Australia 'B' team made up of locally based players and fringe european based players.

I'd love that. The Socceroos miss out on a lot of football around Asiawizard wrote:Makes sense to me.Stuckey wrote:Brazil, Argentina and many other nations play home games in Europe to save their players having to travel too much on the limited time the international weekends offer.astonvilla91 wrote:Good to see a home match played in London before Adelaide.

We're part of the ASEAN confederation but have yet to take part in a competition for that. There is also another EAFF championship kicking off this year but I don't think Australia isn't part of that either. We should be sending squads for that. I think that would be far more beneficial then sending our youth the all these youth tournaments where results are basically meaningless. Obviously we should send the best squad we can but due to these tournaments not being covered by the FIFA international breaks that will be difficult so HAL and younger players will obviously need to fill in.

Don't mean to be a spelling Nazi (pun intended), Bomber. But I'm fairly sure it's spelt Kraut. And I do hope there's no thrashing to undo the goodwill for our National side from winning the Asian Nations Cup.Bomber wrote:Given what looks like a much weakened team to take on ze Germans, I think we're in for a torrid time. 3-0 to the Krouts.
And digressing to God Isn't An Englishman's, aka Hawkesy's and also an FFSA Premier League Coach's view that we don't belong in Asia, let them consider this realism:
It needs an unlikely 75% vote of the Asian Confederation's countries to toss us out, and even the late unlamented Singaporean right-wing racist PM (Lee Kuan Yew) included us in Asia and referred to us as the white trash of Asia.
God Isn't An Englishman's best bet is to go with that FFSA Coach's agreement on Adelaide radio that Asia be split into east & west Asia, with us belonging to east Asia which includes the likes of Japan, South Korea and others on the Pacific rim, and yes, N.Z. & the little island nations of the Pacific Ocean.

Re: Socceroos Friendlies
Well, certainly no thrashing against the World Champions, friendly game or not.
2-2 a very creditable result. Troisi & Jedinak our scorers.
Some positive play created 4 or 5 real chances in the first 20 minutes. Leckie hit the post in the 2nd half when we could have taken the lead.
Overall a very good performance by our National Team.

Re: Socceroos Friendlies
I'm amazed at the Germans ability to put out a quality team given that Weidenfeller, Hummels, Boateng, Schweinsteiger, Schurrle & Podolski were on the bench for Germany.

Re: Socceroos Friendlies
But Panther, why so amazed? The Germans have probably over 400 squad players in the 18-club Bundesliga. The competition for even getting to be a reserve in the National Team must be immense.Black_Panther wrote:I'm amazed at the Germans ability to put out a quality team given that Weidenfeller, Hummels, Boateng, Schweinsteiger, Schurrle & Podolski were on the bench for Germany.
On top of that, the World Champions have a nation of over 80 million, they don't have their best players split amongst FOUR football codes (AFL, NRL, ARU & A-League) like in our country of a far far far smaller population.
We have done well. Great performance, great coach. We have to work hard to get Ange's mentality as de rigeur so that momentum can be maintained.

Fantastic performance
Obviously some people are still living in the past when it comes to our National team's performances.
Ange has completely revived our team and introduced a style that he feels the players can adapt to easily and raise their performances under.
This has created competition for places and a sense of 'belonging' to the squad.
It has also lifted our international ranking and will continue to do so.
We could be up in the Top Twenty fairly soon.

Got up for this one and although I backed them to win the Asian Cup, was blown away by a fantastic, attacking performance, I know it was just a friendly but wow, just wow

Great result. Can't read too much into a friendly, but shows again that Ange has us heading in the right direction.

Draw against Macedonia this morning was a bit disappointing after a draw against Germany.
On another point did we play Greek Macedonians or Slav Macedonians?

Flat & awful performance in this terrible bore-draw against FYROM (FORMER YUGOSLAV REPUBLIC OF MACEDONIA).Baresi wrote:Draw against Macedonia this morning was a bit disappointing after a draw against Germany.

So disappointing after the exciting 2-2 away in Germany. Ange was experimenting in this one, but he's got to find more flexible ways to break down opponents like FYROM who defended in depth in the first half.
