Winning something internationally far exceeds anything domestically. So AFL will never ever compete. Otherwise it would be like saying that winning the HAL is better than winning the ACL.
But obviously they would never admit to that.
But the comparison was Ricky Stuart (NRL) which does have an international competition and it's own world cup. By your reckoning someone who coached Australia to a world cup win in Rugby League or Rugby Union would be better than Ange winning the Asian Cup.
True. I would probably put winning a RL WC as just a big a moment for Australian Sport as winning the Asian Cup.
In both the RL WC and the Asian Cup Australia were one of the clear favourites going in and it was unlikely that any one but the top 4-5 nations would win it.

Imagine if Ange had the squad that Guus had!

We'd be celebrating a world cup win!

Ang is ok, but some people need to relax.
If he were good, he'd be overseas. Let's face it! The Asian cup was a tournament for the 100 ranking teams. Pretty poor standard all round

Ange not even the best manager you've had. Terry Venables clearly you're beat ever.

Best australian player/manager I'd go for Wayne Bennett

Bennett's accomplishments as a player weren't that noteworthy.

I'm not taking anything away from his coaching achievements, however if you balance equally the coaching and the playing he comes up short in comparison to Ricky Stuart.

Who else can match his record? Trophies won as player and a manager.

Neeskens, though he doesn't match it - he blows it out of the water.

Game over Hawkester.

As I am using a VERY poor source I am happy to be corrected but he was only an assistant.

I believe he was a caretaker manager when Hiddink was unavailable due to his PSV Eindhoven duties.

I would've thought success would've been measured against achievements/results rather than reputation.....

like I said.....a sad attempt at trolling..

a Venables coached team let a 2 goal lead slip V Iran.......he was the architect of a major F*&^ up in Australian football history

So, for my next question. What did he win as a coach?

No the major Fook up was down to that lunatic that invaded the pitch and tried to pull the net down - he should have been kicked to death for that.

So you get a trophy now for making the last 4 of a competition?

No, the same as you don't win a trophy for winning a few games as a caretaker (Unless you're roberto di matteo)

Would venables not have won the confederation qualifying in order to play iran?

No one considers that an achievement. Its an expectation.
