Using your example, born to English parents, but 'never set foot' in England (assuming you mean born outside England, rather than unable to 'set foot' through some disability) ... and you assert they should support their 'local side'.
Which local side do you mean? The side from the town their parents lived in? Or the side of the town in which they were conceived? Or some other 'local side'?
What does that make him ?
Where are his parents from?

Re: Australia Champions of Asia
Right so having been brought up as a Southampton supporter all his life, dreaming of the day he can go to watch them play live, if he goes to one A-league game it means he can't be a Southampton supporter? And if he does decide to start supporting AU, it means he can no longer support Southampton as well?God is an Englishman wrote:Well he hasn't seen Southampton play, his local side clearly isn't PSG, which only leaves Adelaide United.otto62 wrote:Even for you, that's an impressively obtuse comment.God is an Englishman wrote:Has he warned Adelaide at Hindmarsh?
Sorry ... I just got it "watched".
Yes.
hold on, one more question. how old is he?
do you now want to discuss his nationality?
I think support is about something more - it's about what's in your heart, not where you live, or used to live.

He hasn't ever been to a Southampton game, so he can't claim to support them. Once he's attended then he can say he supports them.
Does he claim to support Adelaide United?

In your interpretation, if someone is unable to ever attend a game due to a disability could they ever be a supporter of a club?God is an Englishman wrote:otto62 wrote: Right so having been brought up as a Southampton supporter all his life, dreaming of the day he can go to watch them play live, if he goes to one A-league game it means he can't be a Southampton supporter? Does he claim to support Adelaide United?
Let's take both scenarios:
1) he decides he doesn't want to support AU and never goes to a second game
2) he decides he wants to support AU as well as Southampton (considering they don't play in the same league system he feels that's OK)

Re: Australia Champions of Asia
I have a quadriplegic friend who doesn't miss a home game, so what disability has he got that stops him attending. Living in Australia, as bad as it is, is not a disability.otto62 wrote:In your interpretation, if someone is unable to ever attend a game due to a disability could they ever be a supporter of a club?God is an Englishman wrote:otto62 wrote: Right so having been brought up as a Southampton supporter all his life, dreaming of the day he can go to watch them play live, if he goes to one A-league game it means he can't be a Southampton supporter? 1 then he would be supporting no one until he attends a game at St Mary's.

Birth parents is the call here.
Re: Australia Champions of Asia
So if someone is a quadriplegic, parents from Southampton, who buys all the gear, watches every game on TV, has followed them since he was a kid, but since he's living on the disability pension can't afford to go to Southampton to watch a match. Is he a Southampton supporter?God is an Englishman wrote:I have a quadriplegic friend who doesn't miss a home game, so what disability has he got that stops him attending.
