once you've googled the answer ask yourself why this hasn't translated to senior success??

Not answering your pointless question. You're asking the wrong question and this is where you fail.MegaBonus wrote:Grosso

Congratulations to the Joeys for winning the AFF youth Championships!
A little disappointing it didn't make the news TBH.

Celebrating an U17 team whose had 10's of millions spent on them winning a penalty shootout against a shambolic youth set up from a third world country indicates you must've been born this century.Baresi wrote:Congratulations to the Joeys for winning the AFF youth Championships!

I guess you are thinking that the Vietnamese are worst then teams like Vanuatu and Western Samoa then....
I might add if this is the case then you must have loved life when the Socceroos made only 1 world cup to 2006...... I think i am proud to have been born in this century if this was the case!

You can only beat who you're playing.Bomber wrote:To be fair the opposition wasn't what you'd exactly call top of the tree....
Obviously its a positive result which is wonderful but the true test of these sides is how many of these kids progress further in their careers. A lot of work goes into not only developing these players to be better players but also into become professional athletes. Obviously not every single kid will make it but I think it's fair to expect a fair decent rate of return given the amount of resources that goes into the program (which isn't tens of millions). If we look at the 2011 U17 WC squad 17 players out of the 21 players in the squad went on to gain a professional contract of some sort. Although only 9 of the 20 players still have a professional contract (with the obvious exception of Tombides.)
Compare that to the 2015 squad only 7 have gained professional contracts although its still early days on their careers, some don't seem to be too far away from gaining one.
Speaking of the 2015 squad, does anyone know where Charlie Devereux is now? After the WC he seems to not joined a club at all. Is he still playing anywhere? He'd be a good replacement for Mauk at AU in the future.
Re: Australian U17s - Joeys
Looks like he is at The Centre of Excellence in Canberra, not attached to any club at the moment.Stuckey wrote:You can only beat who you're playing.Bomber wrote:To be fair the opposition wasn't what you'd exactly call top of the tree....

AFC U16 championships kick off tomorrow.
As with the last versions the top 4 match the U17 WC.
We're lined up against Japan, Vietnam and Kyrgyzstan in the group stage.

Wow. Bottom of the group. What a disaster. If this isn't a massive wake up call nothing is. Hopefully this is a indication to the FFA that the CoE isn't so excellent.
