Distinct lack of strikers. Even though Juric has been injured I'd take him. Not surprised Djite was over looked. I'm very surprised more players that already play in a passing side aren't included. Brattan, North would be an inclusions for me.
Glad to see Mooy get a call up.
What's people's thought on Boogs? Defence is clearly an issue and IMO he's been nothing but brilliant this season. He clearly suits Ange's system.

I'm with BP on this one. The time for seeing who's good enough to make the squad is over. We need our best XI who are currently playing. If Wilkshire is getting regular game time in the Eredivisie he should stroll into the squad IMO. Lets just worry about not having our pants pulled down while much of Australia is watching then get back to development afterwards.

The key elements we need to see improvement are: A solid central defensive pairing, a strong presence up front and the minimisation of skill errors in the middle of the park.

The game is going great guns in this country ATM and the last thing we need is all this momentum flattened by the Socceroos getting bailed out in the group stage.

I must say he did look out of his depth.
The first half wasnt bad, but Japan could have smashed us if not for some poor finishing. That said, it was a last chance to see some players by AP so I will give him the benfit of the doubt to date - after all, if this was a must win game there was no way Tim Cahill would have sat on the pine for so long.
Can't say I'm optimistic about our chances of winning the AC, even if it is at home.

Last night's game only served to show Ange's lack of experience at this level.

When Japan made their first substitution and the match turned in their favour he just sat there until they inevitably scored.

Only then did he make changes but it was too little too late as the goal lifted the whole Japanese squad and they took the game a way from us and scored again.

Bringing Cahill on so late gave us too little time to get back in the game and make an impact.

Cahill's goal lifted us but it was all over already, bar the shouting.

I thought Franjic was ineffective at right back - in the first half he was too slow coming out of defence and on the few occasions he did push up he was too slow getting back and put a lot of pressure on the other defenders.
He was also responsible for the Jap's first goal as he failed to look around as everyone moved towards the ball.

There was absolutely nothing working upfront and Ange needs to do some serious work to find and work with any strikers who show a little bit of class or we are in for a few thrashings in the Asian Championships.
