Re: Asian Cup lead up friendlies
http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/art ... y9nkr9mc3jThe Socceroos will round out preparations for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup with a rematch of the 2011 Final when they face defending Asian Cup Champions Japan in an international friendly in Osaka on 18 November.
Good to see our last three matches are against opposition we're likely to play at some point in the Asian Cup.

http://www.foxsports.com.au/football/so ... 7113181369Socceroos squad to face Japan, November 18 in Osaka: Terry Antonis (Sydney FC — 3 caps), Aziz Behich (Bursaspor — 6), Mark Bresciano (Al Gharafa — 80), Josh Brillante (Fiorentina — 5), Tim Cahill (New York Red Bulls — 75), Jason Davidson (West Bromwich Albion — 13), Ivan Franjic (Torpedo Moskva — 11), Chris Herd (Aston Villa — 3), James Holland (Austria Vienna — 15), Mile Jedinak (Crystal Palace — 51), Robbie Kruse (Bayer Leverkusen — 31), Mitch Langerak (Borussia Dortmund 0 5), Mathew Leckie (Ingolstadt 04 — 15), Massimo Luongo (Swindon Town — 4), Matt McKay (Brisbane Roar — 49), Mark Milligan (Melbourne Victory — 33), Mitch Nichols (Perth Glory — 4), Aaron Mooy (Melbourne City — 3), Mat Ryan (Club Brugge — 12), Trent Sainsbury (PEC Zwolle — 3), Nikolai Topor-Stanley (Western Sydney Wanderers — 4), James Troisi (SV Zulte Waregem — 15), Alex Wilkinson (Jeonbuk Hyundai — 10).
Squad for the Japan game.
Distinct lack of strikers. Even though Juric has been injured I'd take him. Not surprised Djite was over looked. I'm very surprised more players that already play in a passing side aren't included. Brattan, North would be an inclusions for me.
Glad to see Mooy get a call up.
What's people's thought on Boogs? Defence is clearly an issue and IMO he's been nothing but brilliant this season. He clearly suits Ange's system.

McKay, Nicholls included - Why ?????
McGowan omitted - why ???? His chances of being reselected seem slim ?

Why no Wilkshire?
Has been starting nearly every week for Feyenoord.

Because he is 32 and won't make the next world cup. It's about exposing as many players to the national team as possible before the Asian Cup.Black_Panther wrote:Why no Wilkshire?

Re: Asian Cup lead up friendlies
I'm with BP on this one. The time for seeing who's good enough to make the squad is over. We need our best XI who are currently playing. If Wilkshire is getting regular game time in the Eredivisie he should stroll into the squad IMO. Lets just worry about not having our pants pulled down while much of Australia is watching then get back to development afterwards.DMT wrote:Because he is 32 and won't make the next world cup. The key elements we need to see improvement are: A solid central defensive pairing, a strong presence up front and the minimisation of skill errors in the middle of the park.
The game is going great guns in this country ATM and the last thing we need is all this momentum flattened by the Socceroos getting bailed out in the group stage.
Re: Asian Cup lead up friendlies
Is wilkshere the best aussie right back? He was the biggest culprit of the long ball from the halfway line all of holgers reign ffs! Who cares if he is playing at a high standard. Does he fit the make up of the system. Ivan Franjic has to be the right back for australia he is just dynamite there.
Re: Asian Cup lead up friendlies
I heard Wilkshire was playing in central midfield. I could be wrong.DMT wrote:Is wilkshere the best aussie right back? I think he's currently injured also
Re: Asian Cup lead up friendlies
Surely Sainsbury and Wilkinson are not seriously being touted as our best centre halves in Australia at present. They have been schooled at times v japan so far...

Are you serious? WTF is AP obsession with playing Franjic? Is he married to his sister or something? The guy is incapable of playing at this level. He cannot mark one on one or zonally, cannot tackle, cannot make a forward pass, cannot beat a player, cannot cross and has no bottle. At least Wilkshire could kick people. Franjic cannot even do that! He will be the cause of numerous more goals against.DMT wrote:Is wilkshere the best aussie right back? Well I would have to say that was one of the worst performances against that level of opposition that I have seen from the socceroos ever!
We are in big trouble.

The first half wasnt bad, but Japan could have smashed us if not for some poor finishing. That said, it was a last chance to see some players by AP so I will give him the benfit of the doubt to date - after all, if this was a must win game there was no way Tim Cahill would have sat on the pine for so long.
Can't say I'm optimistic about our chances of winning the AC, even if it is at home.

Re: Asian Cup lead up friendlies
Last night's game only served to show Ange's lack of experience at this level.
When Japan made their first substitution and the match turned in their favour he just sat there until they inevitably scored.
Only then did he make changes but it was too little too late as the goal lifted the whole Japanese squad and they took the game a way from us and scored again.
Bringing Cahill on so late gave us too little time to get back in the game and make an impact.
Cahill's goal lifted us but it was all over already, bar the shouting.
I thought Franjic was ineffective at right back - in the first half he was too slow coming out of defence and on the few occasions he did push up he was too slow getting back and put a lot of pressure on the other defenders.
He was also responsible for the Jap's first goal as he failed to look around as everyone moved towards the ball.
There was absolutely nothing working upfront and Ange needs to do some serious work to find and work with any strikers who show a little bit of class or we are in for a few thrashings in the Asian Championships.
