Re: ASIAN CUP 2015
If Australia wins its group it can avoid meeting Japan until the final.
An Australia vs Japan final would be awesome and provide the opportunity for revenge for the last one.
But Australia will have to improve and be at the top of their game to get to the final and to beat Japan.
My team would be:
--------------------------Juric---------------------------
-------Oar---------------Cahill -----------Kruse---------
----------------Luongo-------------Jedinak---------------
Behich---------Sainsbury-----------Spiranovic-------Herd
----------------------------Ryan---------------------------
Bench: Bresciano, Burns, Troisi, Milligan, Leckie

I got:
..................Ryan
Herd...Sainsbury..Spira..Davidson
..........Jedi.............Milligan
.............Luongo/Bresc
Kruse...........................Leckie
..................Juric
Cahill, Wilkinson, Euge!, Burns, Franjc, McKay, Oar.
I'd love to see Oar used in the #10 role but I expect he'll be used on the wing. But hopefully having Burns in the squad alters that.

It's a bit of a no-brainer really, if Cahill doesn't play where do the goals come from??Bomber wrote:Cahill must start. It would be like the Argies leaving Messi on the pine. Gotta strike hot from the get-go for me.

See Bresh talking up Luongo and Troisi
I'm definitely a Luongo fan. Troisi been on fire too. It's almost as if we have some depth on the wings
Playing with inside forwards with behich and franjic overlapping sounds exciting to me. Can't wait

Hope all you like but I'm in regular contact with Ange!Bomber wrote:Lucky Stuckey aint picking the real starting 11 then! I'm fairly sure Ange would go with Cahill but personally I'd rather see us go with Juric. I really liked what I saw of Juric against the Saudis. I feel the Socceroos with Cahill reminds me of AU without Bruce. I feel our attacks are much more aimless and often break down too easily due to Cahill not offering a big physical presence up front. I understand a lot of goals have come from Tim but I think that's down to his individual skill of taking chances and not down to the tactics used when he's on the park. When Tim is on the pitch we do our usual play out from the back but then once the ball crosses the half way line due to Tim not fronting up and receiving the ball we must transition into a counter attacking side. But due to the slow build up from defence the opposition sees us coming a mile away and is generally prepared for what's coming. Which is why Leckie is so important as unless we have wingers with blinding pace we never getting through solid defences.

Re: ASIAN CUP 2015
Forgot to add - the poor old Asian Football Confederation won't be using Additional Assistant Refs as does UEFA. And the Saudi and Qatari billionaires were unable to contribute to assist the AFC to deploy Goal Line Technology either in this 2015 Asian Nations Cup because it costs approximately what an EPL player earns in a week.Con M wrote:Would be great to see Australia beat Iran in the Final in front of 80,000 in Sydney.
Great history of meetings with the old enemy. We knocked them out from getting to the 1974 World Cup. They did the same to us along the way to qualifying for the 1978 World Cup. And the 1998 World Cup with that fateful night at the MCG.
What irony, what fury if the Saudis fluke through to the Final and have a Lampard-like phantom goal struck off! It would make their fury at penalty claims against WSW in the Asian Champions League Final seem tame in comparison.
Re: ASIAN CUP 2015
Great result! Well done lads! Perfect start to the tournament. Hopefully that's the monkey of the shoulder and we can move on to bigger and better things!

Re: ASIAN CUP 2015
When I was watching foxsports a week ago and I saw the Aussies with those cool vests on in stinking heat. I realised we are going to be so fit. If we press like crazy not many teams will be able to deal with us.
We are strong and fast by nature so it makes sense to get us playing with the ball and pressing, so that athleticism can be of benefit.
I was completely not surprised by the outcome. And you would think we will improve a lot as the tournament progresses.
Anyway I will see you at the Oman game, can't wait

Re: ASIAN CUP 2015
Great to overcome that shaky start.
A man on the post would have cleared the Kuwaiti goal from the corner. Will we ever get that right?
Also, here was I thinking Ange had a blind spot for Oar. Despite Oar's good left foot, Ange too must have tired of seeing Oar spray his crosses & shots and not clear the first defender when taking free-kicks from the flanks.
Onwards & upwards now against Oman and South Korea.

Re: ASIAN CUP 2015
Just been looking at the price of tickets for Tuesday's match against Oman.
>$100, when any game not involving Australia is *$30.59.
More than 3 Times the price!
Last nights game> $150
Joke.

Yes I think more than half the tickets for last nights game were Cat 1, so $150Ernie Cooksey wrote:Just been looking at the price of tickets for Tuesday's match against Oman.

My tickets for Australia v Holland were only $95 - very stupid pricing - game was around 9,000 under capacity poor form

Re: ASIAN CUP 2015
Yes it was the cat1 prices I quoted there, GA for Tuesday night v Oman just under $50 so I will go.
Just seems really out of whack for there to be so much difference in the prices of tickets. I would have guessed them to be all identical as per stage of tournament, and could understand a slight inflation for Australia matches, but pretty gobsmacked that first round fixtures are over 3 times the price of all others, regardless of venue.

Has been a fairly enjoyable tournament so far. Been impressed with games and the quality has exceeded expectations, even though at times some of the teams looked jaded towards to end of some games. Even have outshone some of the crap Euro qualifiers I've seen recently.

Agreed. But you can't say that in your last sentence, Polska Bomboff.Bomber wrote:Has been a fairly enjoyable tournament so far. Section 18C about freedom of speech still exists and some Eurosnobs & EPL-snobs might get offended.
ps, will you have chilli kranskys & very cold beer at your Essex Cr tournament?

Points taken.
I believe we will have a new "chef" doing the bbq this year, but the kranskys are a must I would think. Cold beer - guaranteed, and many of the Polish variety (ie higher alcohol content).
I take it you will come and say hello? I can even give you the Friday lunch details, hence no issues with PM's etc.
