New faces for Socceroos March clash

Post by Stuckey »

Having just come back from a scouting trip in Europe, Postecoglou indicated he would include some players who impressed him there.

He touched base with the likes of Swindon Town midfielder Massimo Luongo, Millwall duo Shane Lowry and Scott McDonald, Bailey Wright and Neill Kilkenny of English League One side Preston and Scotland-based Jackson Irvine.

He also spent time in Germany assessing FSV Frankfurt players Mathew Leckie and Nikita Rukavytsya before heading to Holland to watch FC Utrecht duo Tommy Oar and Adam Sarota, who recently came back from injury.

"There's a few that I went to watch and some of them will be included," he said.

Great to see him out there checking what's on offer.
I really have high hopes for Ange. Not that we will succeed but that he will bring in the right new faces required for the future. The Asian Cup should be our number one focus. Winning that on home soil will be huge for the game and doing it with a new list of names that the game can follow for years to come will be great! Because we can't keep following Kewell, Cahill and Bresciano forever. We need new household names.

It's where Tim Cahill was playing when he was first selected.

Not sure. Soon I'm guessing with the game only a fortnight away.

Clubless Lucas Neill has been overlooked by Australia coach Ange Postecoglou for next month’s clash with Ecuador in London, according to sources.

I question this does create is who should be the captain?

IMO Mile Jednak fits the bill. I don't think the Socceroos have too many other players captaining their EPL club ATM!
It would also draw a nice line in the sand to say the time of playing the golden generation instead of blooding the next generation is over.

I can't think of a time I was more excited for a upcoming Socceroo's friendly in the last few years!

Lucas Neill isn’t ready to call time on his playing career yet.

The former West Ham defender could be on the verge of a return to Australian football with NSW Premier League club Sydney Olympic.

The club Tweeted on Monday afternoon that it is in discussions with the Socceroos skipper, who has not played a competitive game since leaving Japanese club Omiya Ardija in December.

I'd have to agree with Jedinak for skipper. Shows the right attitude every week and is captain of an EPL club where he leads by example.

Depends on if he actually plays at Watford.
Regardless of him signing he certainly doesn't deserve a call up to the Ecuador game squad.

I feel there is no need to just get rid of everyone. It needs to be on a case by case situation IMO. Cahill has been amazing for us but IMO he may not fit into the plans Ange has, which I am glad about Holger's plan of just bombing it to either Kennedy or Cahill was embarrassing. Bresciano is still important IMO name a player that can replace him?
But I agree there are a number of players who have had their time and need moving on. Brosque, Holman, Sasa and Thompson for starts.
I liked the look of the Costa Rica game squad Ange made up. Lets see how this one goes. I feel we might have a few more young guys playing in Europe this time. Hopefully some that are in the eyes of other NTs with the heritage.
