Socceroos tipped to play South Africa in farewell

Post by Red-4-Life »

Australia is expected to play South Africa in its 2014 FIFA World Cup farewell match in Sydney, according to media reports.

Football Federation Australia said it would not comment on the reports until such time as an opponent is locked in, most probably in the next week.

FFA has booked the Olympic venue on 25, 26 and 27 May for the farewell game that usually takes place in Melbourne in front of big crowds.

The match against Bafana Bafana, who failed to qualify for this year's World Cup, will provide Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou with another valid test before the team embarks on its journey to Brazil.

Australia will play Ecuador in another international match at a yet to be named venue in London on 6 March (AEST).

Postecoglou is also trying to finalise two international matches in Brazil just before the tournament starts.

The Socceroos open their World Cup campaign against Chile in Cuiaba on 15 June then face Netherlands in Porto Alegre on 20 June and Spain in Curitiba five days later.
