Just imagine for one minute how he must have felt.

He has represented his country without regard to the cost to his career - has captained that team in two World Cup finals series - has given everything he has to the cause of playing for HIS country - and gets booed, verbally abused, and ridiculed by a bunch of morons who have never so much as represented their street at tiddly-winks, because they think he is too old and too slow to lead his country into another World Cup finals - a finals he worked his socks off to get his team to.

A couple of mediocre performances and they deride a man of honour and write off his career as meaningless.

If these so-called supporters put in just 10% of the effort and commitment that Lucas Neill has put in, towards cheering the team that represents their nation, then we would win every World Cup hands down! :x :x :x

I think you need to find a country to live in that rules with the socialist values that you hold.

Good on him for being in the position to earn that, I know you are jealous of this but it still lacks class
to disrespect the Australian captain like that.

Perhaps it would of been better for him to have retired gracefully from international football and received the plaudits from all. What's even more ridiculous or sad is that he seems to have been the best option at CB even when obviously in the twilight of his career. As quoted by you previously you say he's always chased the money not the prestige...

With your opinion which is of no consequence at all

Being a professional, Lucas made a rookie mistake by allowing himself to be drawn into making any comment that brought him down to there level. He should have stopped there but in the press conference, he then blamed the crowd for his mistake. I only hope he doesn't loss the captaincy and be remembered for this. His contribution to Australian Football should be what people remember not minor mistakes.

in "The Australian" newspaper today (21/11) the FFA powerful CEO, David Gallop quoted as being unhappy with Neill's reaction.

Beginning of the end.

I thought the coach picked the team?

Or are we going back to the Soccer Australia days?

Reality when the top brass decide it's unacceptable public behaviour and image.

So you're suggesting that the coach doesn't pick the team?

Not suggesting that. But when, to quote the CEO, "The action of swearing and reacting like that to a section of the crowd was unacceptable", then the top brass have to step in if the coach doesn't..

Neill should have let it slide. From the vision it looked as if Neill played a pass, then turned around to give his spray to the crowd without even continuing to look at the ball when it was still in play.

Beginning of the end. I admired his leadership and his form in the draw in Japan & against the Iraq Reserves. But he should have retired with Schwarzer-like dignity before he is eventually pushed.

Ouch & touché, getborn. Reminds me of that fateful game when Neill should not have slid in against Grosso.

Hiddink was just gearing up for 11 against 10 in extra time and contemplating a win over beatable Ukraine in the quarter-finals.

Imagine what it would have done to the profile of the game here in OZ - a World Cup semi-finalist spot for a country whose playing stocks are divided amongst FOUR different codes of football (NRL, AFL, ARL & soccer-football)!

National captains should act with more class than to blame other players and then react to a crowd. If he wasn't Asutralian then you'd all agree - typical one eyed Australian reaction. Do yourself a favour, drop him, blood younger players in time for a more realistic tilt at 2018.

How is he shifting blame on this one?

The people who deserve to be booed are the former 'friends' that have been on his case for being able to do what they never could and go to two World Cup Finals - a third one would be too much for them to bear.

And YES, I did accuse him of being a Mercenary in his club career - I feel he should have come back to Australia this season, or sooner, and given something back to the national competition.

But that is different from pouring hatred at him whilst he was Captaining his COUNTRY!

I'd like to see him in the Red's defence at the moment.
