Just saw that pop up on Fox Sports.....Great Australian in my opinion and will go out with his reputation in tact.

Ryan would be in the mix too.

It has that feel to it doesn't it, what odds on Cahill, Neill, Bresciano et al before Xmas?

Strange timing. I thought he would have been the safest of the old guard along with Cahill.

Bresciano could still have a role to play but Ang should call time on Neill, Carney, Archie & piss Vidmar off too.

well done to Mark on a great career, he could have been selfish and gone to the next world cup and imo would have been selected regardless of form.

Sad to see him go, especially with a WC just around the corner. A champion and hero of Australian football.

The move to Chelsea must have been one he planned knowing his international career was coming to an end

You could argue the opposite.

Isn't it selfish, not selfless to retire 6 months before the WC without giving the team fair opportunity to select the right replacement?
Langerak, Ryan, Federici, or Galekovic could sure have done with the exposure the International football.
Feels to me like they've been thrown in the deep end.

Particularly IF his retirement was planned.

You mean like some legislation or something?

Just watched the Fox interview. Mark is pure class and has been all the way through.
A few of his reiterations about retiring as he's not mentally able to give 100% seemed like a little message to maybe one or two of the current squad (basically pull your head out or stop putting your hand up).
Loved how it all played out for Graham Poll on that fateful night vs Croatia too... what a prat for making a comment.

IMO, best GK to ever pull on the gloves for Australia and should be in hall of fame asap.
