Youth World Cup - updates

Post by E. Grant & Co »

LARNACA, CYPRUS - 19 September 2009

The Qantas Young Socceroos suffered their first defeat in their pre FIFA U-20 World Cup tour of Cyprus, losing 2-0 to England today.

Coach Jan Versleijen selected an entirely different side to the one that defeated Trinidad and Tobago two days ago, with Chris Herd and Sean Rooney making their Qantas Young Socceroos debuts while Sam Munro was handed the captain’s armband.

Also included in the 80 minute hit-out at the Alpha Sports Centre in Larnaca were the three stand-in players James Virgili (Newcastle Jets) and AIS duo Trent Sainsbury and Brendan Hamill.

Unfortunately the Qantas Young Socceroos conceded as early as the second minute when Tottenham striker Jon Obika volleyed home a corner from close range.

With the game divided into quarters, Versleijen had the rare opportunity to deliver a quarter-time team talk and it paid dividends as the team produced a much more assured display in the second term, with Ben Kantarovski forcing a good save from keeper Elliot Parish.

The improvement continued and Nathan Elasi struck the upright in the 63rd minute after a clever build up from the Qantas Young Socceroos.

He was unfortunate to concede a penalty just five minutes later when he was deemed to have bumped midfielder Adam Clayton in the box.

Sam Baldock calmly converted the penalty past keeper Alex Cisak to make it 2-0 for England, who were playing their only lead up game prior to the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

“You always like to win the game, but if you look at what we got out of this game it was more important than the score,’’ Versleijen said.

“If you look our the line up we had six players who are eligible for the next Young Socceroos team, so that was a positive for us, and playing against England is always good.

“This game was decided by details, a goal against from a corner and then a penalty. If you see the field play, they were a bit more consistent but we had two or three good chances, which at this level you need to score at least one goal from those.

“This game was tactically more difficult (than the Trinidad and Tobago game), England is more patient and more organised, where the Trinidad game was more an opportunist’s game, but it’s good to come up against different styles of play because that’s how it will be at the World Cup, coming up against Czech Republic, Costa Rica and then Brazil.

“It was good to see pretty much everyone get through the whole match and the midfield is starting to understand better the things they have to do.

“Overall I’m happy with the progress, building up from behind, the way the midfield’s starting to work together, we just need to do a bit more into the final third, in particular getting balls into our striker.

“Rooney hasn’t played with this team but once they realised how he plays and used him more we started creating some half chances.’’

Despite the game kicking off at 10am local time, the players still players in 30°C-plus heat and donned ice vests to cool them at half time.

“The conditions are part of playing in Egypt and the reason we’re here in Cyprus,’’ Versleijen said.

“They’re handling it okay and you can see the way they’re getting more used to it.

“But even in these conditions you can control the game by minimising your mistakes and keeping the ball, then you don’t have to chase it and you don’t lose energy.’’

The Qantas Young Socceroos round off their preparations with a game against the USA tomorrow (11.30pm AEST).

All Qantas Young Socceroos matches at the FIFA U-20 World Cup will be broadcast live and exclusive on SBS TV (see www.sbs.com.au for full broadcast details).

LARNACA, CYPRUS 22 September, 2009

The Qantas Young Socceroos lost 2-0 to the USA, in their third and final lead up game ahead of the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt.

The USA scored early in the first half and midway through the second half at the Agia Napa Municipality Stadium in Cyprus, to secure the win.

As was always the plan, coach Jan Versleijen reverted back to virtually the same team that defeated Trinidad and Tobago 2-1 at the same ground three days earlier.

The only change was the addition of keeper Dean Bouzanis, who was handed his first start with Versleijen promising to give each of the keeper’s at least a game each.

The Qantas Young Socceroos again conceded early, with Tony Taylor cutting in from the left and striking sweetly to hand the US a fourth minute lead.

Australia had a chance to equalise in the 28th minute when Kofi Danning centred for Jason Hoffman, but US keeper Brian Perk made a stunning double save off striker Jason Hoffman.

Perk was tested again just after the break when he tipped James Holland’s curling free kick over the bar.

USA made the Qantas Young Socceroos pay in the 74th minute when Mikkel Diskerud pounced after a mix up between Bouzanis and McGowan to make it 2-0.

Substitute Sean Rooney almost netted seven minutes later, but Perk made another good save from the striker’s header low to his right.

It was not the desired result, but coach Jan Versleijen said it was all crucial experience for the players ahead of the Qantas Young Socceroos’ opening match of the FIFA U-20 World Cup against Czech Republic on 27 September.

“If you look at the result and the way we gave away the goals it’s not good. We also saw that in the England game (on Saturday) and it’s something that we have to get rid because we can not have that at the World Cup,’’ Versleijen said.

“It was the final test for the USA and you could see that, their concentration levels were high and they’re always a good team. They’re disciplined, well organised and difficult to beat and they showed that today.

“We’ve played three games over here and the objective was to give everyone at least 90 minutes playing time to see what they can do, and for me to have an idea as to what sort of composition I have to make when we start our first game against Czech Republic.

“I have to look for a good balance in the backline, in midfield, and certain qualities in the front line that you need at this level, and from the three games I’ve got a good idea.’’

The Qantas Young Socceroos won their first match against Trinidad and Tobago 2-1, before succumbing to England 2-0 and now USA with the same scoreline during their three-game tour of Cyprus.

With all those teams preparing to do battle at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Egypt also, Versleijen said he is now well placed to select him team for the opening match of the tournament.

“It’s good playing against opponents who will be at the World Cup because if you make those mistakes, straight away you’ll be punished so it’s good experience,’’ Versleijen said.

“We got the challenges we wanted.

"The qualifiers were in Saudi Arabia against Asian teams and that’s different than competing against all of these teams who will be at the World Cup. This is a step up.

“We have a few days where we can work a bit harder at training and work on some tactical parts of the game, especially the combination between the midfielders and the forwards, or the attacking third.’’

All Qantas Young Socceroos matches at the FIFA U-20 World Cup will be broadcast live and exclusive on SBS TV (see www.sbs.com.au for full broadcast details).

Unusual to see no Argentina side there (but Venezuala qualifying). And Tahiti?

Nevertheless, good luck to the Oz boys!

Young Socceroos lose to Czech Republic in under-20 World Cup

From: AAP September 28, 2009 7:33AM Increase Text SizeDecrease Text SizePrintEmail Share

THE Young Socceroos lost their opening game at the under-20 World Cup today, going down 2-1 to the Czech Republic in Port Said, Egypt.

The highlights of an otherwise scrappy encounter occurred in the final minutes, when Australian defender Ryan McGowan conceded a penalty and was sent off, before James Holland converted a penalty consolation with the final kick of the match.

The first of the Czech goals came from the head of Michael Rabusic in the 50th minute before Tomas Pekhart's penalty in the last minute of regular time.

The Australian competed well throughout the opening stanza and showed great character to turn around a period of dominance from the Czechs and go to the break with the ascendency.

Their best of the opening 45 was Newcastle Jets 17-year-old Ben Kantarovski - one of the youngest players at the tournament - who showed poise and maturity controlling much of the midfield movement.

Ironically, Kantarovski conceded the free kick that resulted in the opening goal just five minutes into the second half.

McGowan's sending off soured an otherwise comfortable performance from the Scottish-based defender, while Holland will be thankful for a second chance from the penalty spot after Mexican referee Marco Rodriguez ruled goalkeeper Tomas Vaclik's moved illegally.

The Young Socceroos next face Costa Rica, who were humbled 5-0 by group favourites Brazil in their opening match

Mc Gowna simply try's to block the shot.

Young Socceroos coach Jan Versleijen said his team could play much better.

“It was disappointing not only with the result but the performance because we didn’t reach the level that we should reach,’’ Versleijen said.

“If you want to get results in a World Cup you have to play at a high level and we didn’t see that today.

“You can always pinpoint reasons and there’s a lot of expectations, not from outside but from the players themselves because everyone wants to get a big result and maybe that worked a bit against us, maybe we were nervous.

“But that aside, I know we can do much better and everybody knows we can do much better and that’s the positive coming out of it.

“The important thing now is to get a result against Costa Rica to have a chance of qualifying for the next round.’’

Danning gave some good balls, but didn't get enough of it and needed t drift inside more.

Team gave the ball away way to much, not enough movement for my liking.

Qantas Young Socceroos downed by Costa Rica
Thursday, 1 October 2009
by FFA Media Release

The Qantas Young Socceroos suffered their second defeat at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, losing 0-3 to Costa Rica in Port Said, Egypt on Wednesday night (Thursday morning AEST).

One down at the break, Australia conceded two late goals in a loss that was compounded by a red card to winger Tahj Minniecon.

Australia made two changes to the side which lost to Czech Republic, with Sean Rooney and Aaron Mooy coming in for Jason Hoffman and the suspended Ryan McGowan.

While they had the first chance of the game when Daniel Mullen headed over the bar from a Mooy corner, it was Costa Rica who took the lead in the 35th minute when a quickly taken free kick finished up with Diego Madrigal, who turned and fired a right-foot shot into the back of the net, via the upright – just as the Czechs had four days earlier.

Dean Bouzanis kept Australia in the contest four minutes later when he saved with his toe after Josue Martinez broke down the left.

Australia had a great chance to level just moments before the break when Mitch Nichols had a shot saved before James Holland’s rebound was deflected for a corner.

Rhyan Grant made his first appearance of the tournament when he came on for Mullen at half time and Minniecon was brought on in the 55th minute, but referee Mohamed Benouza sent him off for retaliation five minutes later.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Australia could have equalised when Holland got on the end of a cross, but keeper Esteban Alvarado was equal to the task in the 82nd minute.

Seconds later the Qantas Young Socceroos were caught out as they searched for the equaliser. Under pressure from a Costa Rican striker, Luke DeVere was looking for Bouzanis but his header went over the oncoming keeper and into the net for an unfortunate own goal.

And David Guzman rubbed salt into the wound when he netted a third three minutes into injury time, to ensure a 3-0 win to the Costa Ricans.

Qantas Young Socceroos coach Jan Versleijen was bitterly disappointed after the match.

"The result was extremely disappointing. I think the way we started this game was good. We tried to put pressure on Costa Rica and we tried to make them play long balls and it worked out well for the first 30 or so minutes," Versleijen said.

"But after that Costa Rica started to take over the game a bit more, especially in the midfield and that resulted in the free kick.

"Even at half time we had the feeling that we could change the result and we started to get back into it in the second half. We controlled the game, got some half chances.

"We brought on Tahj Minniecon to add some pace and skill but he was sent off after five minutes and then it was very difficult playing against Costa Rica with 10 men and 1-0 down.

"We had high expectations for this World Cup, from the players and staff to people in Australia, but we also knew that playing in this group was not easy and if we want to be at the highest level and if you want to get results everyone has to be at their highest level and that’s something we were rally lacking in these two games.’’

Australia now has the slimmest of chances of advancing to the knockout phase, needing a win against Brazil in its last game as well as other results to go their way – teams have advance to the last 16 with three points in each of the last three FIFA U-20 World Cups.

But Versleijen said the focus had to be only on the Brazil match.

"You should always be positive but you should also be realistic. First we should get our heads up and be strong enough to face Brazil and get the best possible result," he said.

"We don't want to go back to Australia with no points.’’

The Qantas Young Socceroos take on Brazil on Saturday (Sunday 0630 AEST) in their final Group E match at Port Said Stadium.

By the looks of things none of the Asian countries have done all that well.

How to Cheat in World of Warcraft Several third-party programs can be used to automate actions and gain an advantage in WOW from Blizzard entertainment, here's a step-by -step guide. Download autoitv3, a free program that lets you automate tasks. See the resources at the bottom for all of the download links. wow power leveling Download the correct script. Any WoW player who has ever played a battleground knows that after 5 minutes away from your computer, you will be transported out and lose all of your potential honor. Autoit3 works as an "anti-Afk", in other words, it prevents your character from changing its status to "AFK" (away from keyboard). Download the correct script from or copy and save it from edgeofnowhere forums. Make sure if you copy it from egeofnowhere that you save it with .au3 as the extension. wow gold Use the script intelligently. This script won't move your character around, it will only prevent you from being sent out of the battleground. If another player sees you standing still he might suspect you of cheating and contact a blizzard employee. Make sure that you find a spot where other players will not see or suspect you before you activate the script. This is why the Alterac Valley battleground is much safer, because of the many different hiding spots. wow power leveling Press F9 once you have found a spot. This will minimize the game and activate the script. While the script is working, feel free to browse Internet sites, play games, whatever you want. The script will continue to work as long as the game is minimized. Press F10 at any time to maximize the game and pause the script.Use the icon in the bottom right hand corner of your screen if you ever want to exit the program altogether. gold wow Automate fishing with the fishing script. No player will suspect you of cheating while fishing, but sometimes you have to configure the script for it to work properly. Observe the script fish a few times before leaving your computer in order to avoid possible bugs. The game also can't be minimized, but the script does stop you from entering the "AFK" state. Again download or copy and save the script with a .au3 extension. Use Glider for leveling. Glider takes the repetition and boredom out of leveling. Use the Glider forums to find people ready to help you. Glider is undetectable by Blizzard employees, and it can do just about anything you want it to. The catch is, it costs 25 dollars.Customize Glider. If you have glider, than you'll need to customize it. Glider has a built in fisher, in addition to playing any other aspect of your character for you. For an explanation of what glider can do visit their frequently asked questions page. szmcs091007
