It's not the tech of VAR, it's the way it's being used. It works in tennis, rugby, cricket etc because they have absolutes, was the ball on or over the line, was the ball touched down on or behind the line, would the ball have hit the stumps etc, where football has the chip in the ball for that and it works perfectly.

The problem with football is so much of it is shades of grey, it's subjective and there should be only one person who's subjective opinion counts and that's the ref, so it's never going to work well when you introduce another subjective opinion, it's refereeing by concensus.

IMO, VAR should be used for offsides, but they should simplify the process by only looking at the position of the feet which would greatly speed up the time taken and it would be less contentious than using an armpit or other body part.

For everything else, penalties, etc, and for 'behind play' incidents where the ref couldn't possibly see what's happened, he should just get a buzzer in his ear, no talking which might colour his judgement, which tells him to go to the monitor, replay the incident and make his own mind up.
