I know you're being pedantic, which is why I wrote 'effectively stole'. He could not have taken control of Sibneft at a massive discount to true value, without the collusion of the Russian government and the payment of bribes etc, which was probably before Putin took control to be fair.

I know nothing, nor care a jot, about Cahill's transfer, but I bet it was all out in the open and transparent even if, as you seem to imply, it was below your perceived market value. The purchase of the Russian State assets was patently not. I don't blame the likes of Abramovich for taking advantage of the situation, but I sure as hell don't feel sorry for him.

I do however agree that this is very much Putin's war, not the Russian peoples and we shouldn't be punishing all Russians, the majority of whom live in relative poverty and are just trying to survive in a dictatorship. Even those playing sports outside Russia who are wealthier than average, have families and friends in Russia and will probably want to go back there at some point. It's understandable that they don't speak out against Putin.
