Even the most one eyed foreign fans must have respect for this bloke.

From memory Banks hardly (if ever) wore gloves?
RIP
Never saw him play but he said Yashin was the best ever. Yashin said it was Banks.

Yep, this “foreign” fan had respect for Gordon Banks, gentleman & 6-time winner of the FIFA goalkeeper-of-the-year award. I was in awe of THAT save in the early rounds of the 1970 World Cup and watched him perform ‘safe as a bank’ for Stoke on the BBC’s Match of the Day here in Australia on black and white TV.
A “foreign” player called Pele has led the tributes for Gordon, not just for that save from his header but as the thorough gentleman he found him to be.
From memory GIAE, you rightfully mused how far England would have gone had it been Gordon in goals instead of Peter Bonetti in that 1970 QF against West Germany.

Yes, we may have won the world cup in 70 without Bonetti.

Big call. That Brazil side was one of the best ever.
Myself and my three brothers were all goalkeepers who were inspired by Gordon Banks....concentrate on the positioning and angles.
Humble man but great keeper R.I.P.

With a Gordon Banks style skivvy circa 1972
I remember those balls - they were like heading a rock when wet and a lot of kids used avoid them as much as possible.
I can't believe he's tried to make this thread about him, however it does explain the dementia.

And, as usual, you have to take it to another extreme of ugliness and southern stupidity.
Forgive those like giae who always try to ruin things for others - they know no better..
RIP Gordon Banks.
You're the one who made it about you somehow. You wish you were as pretty and as clever as me. Now go and drink 10 pints and beat your wife.

Why would I do that?
That is your more your style than mine after all your wife left you, didn't she? Did you beat her? And do you still beat your wife?
And how does my commenting on the hardness of the type of balls used in the old days, as shown in the picture of the goalkeeping brothers, show that I'm making it about me?
I do not have dementia but you are certainly displaying the symptoms of mental illness.

You really are too stupid for words!
Because you're northern. It's so prevelant they even wrote a song about it.
Yes she did
No I didn't.
To stop doing something, you have to have started it.
Because you had to go on about the balls you used.
People with dementia often don't know they have it.

You always have to resort to ageist insults to cover your own lack of life experience, I almost felt sorry for you - but luckily my memory kicked in and remembered you are nothing more than a pathetic troll and therefore nothing you say is relevant to anything - it's just black noise.
Umfortunately dementia affects a lot of people of many dofferent ages. It may be why you forget insulting me and making everything about you.
Rather sad really.

I am quite sweet, thanks. At least you didn't just insult me this time.

I hope you learn from my example and stop abusing me.
Now, can we please get back to the topic of remembering Gordon Banks?

Good to see the English Football Association will arrange a special tribute to Gordon Banks before England take on Czech Republic at Wembley next month.
