If he's going away from goal or at some ridiculous angle, fair enough, give him a yellow.
I agree. And as you are even older than me, you may know the answer to this. Before the so called professional foul straight red came in (1980?), wasn't a yellow always given?

I put 1980 as I remember the FA Cup Final, and Willie Young wasn't sent off when fouling a young Paul Allen and there was an outcry.

Croatia's midfield against Denmark was so-so,they need to pick it up again against Russia.Luck played its role after a bad Danish clearance, still happy to be in the 1/4 finals.Denmark did change tactics quit a bit for this game, interesting to see that the socceroos outplayed them more than Croatia did last night.

A new rule change states that if a pan given ,only yellow car for player (trying) to play ball.I thought that any tackle from behind was illegal, even if ball touched.

One of these teams will make the final:

Russia
Croatia
Sweden/Switzerland
Colombia/England

personally think England will.

the other finalist will be either;
Uruguay
France
Brazil/Mexico
Belgium/Japan

Against Denmark, Australia played the way they should play with the calibre of player they have. They moved the ball forward quickly, ran with the ball and ran at defenders.

Against Peru, they went back to slow possession build up. Without the technical know-how, it's predictable and wont open up the opposition.

Correct, and you seriously think that he was trying to play the ball? Anyhow, correct result in the end, I think Denmark went as far as expected, but Croatia have more to give.

yeah...especially considering Peru played 11 behind the ball and counter-attacked knowing Australia had to chase the win....

Correct, and we countered it with slow build up, 5 metre passing, predictable, unimaginative attack. We played into their hands because we are technically deficient.

just curious....how do you play against a team employing those tactics without exposing yourself on the break????

You pass the ball quicker and you rely on your quality up front.
Neither skill which Australia possesses.

BUT

this is England's best chance to ever win ANOTHER world cup now. We will now lose to Columbia, probably on penalties.

Just love watching Brazil. Silky skills. Neymar and Willian never stop running. Would love them in the final.

Super skills, but a complete reisling. I'm really over watching him roll about after being hardly touched.

Still had a reasonable tournament, but yes, they'll be kicking themselves for blowing that game.

At 2-0 down, Belgium would have wished they had lost to England.

Japan and Korea can teach Australia a few thing. Have a lot of skill, pace and not scared to shoot.

Let's get past Columbia before we worry about that. If we were to lose then everyone will be saying we should have beaten Belgium.

Belgium aren't scared to travel the 'tougher path'...England however......

Write Columbia off at your peril England. This must be a harder match than Japan. Some quality in the side. Not sure if James R is fit to play. England to me reply on Kane as much as Portugal rely on Ronaldo.

Their 9 changes and their 2 deliberate bookings in the first half would suggest otherwise.

Doesn't make it irrelevant at all, it shows they were playing to a similar game plan as England - it's just they failed.

However, I think both teams were playing to win in the second half.

I'm sensing a bit of hypocrisy here. Normally, when a team fields a weakened side, you're all over them like a rash, but apparently it's OK if England or Belgium do it.

If it's acceptable for the national team to manage their squad as the manager sees fit, why is it the opposite when a league team does it?

When have I said that it was acceptable to do so?
